This is a great book for students studying literature. There are many great works included in the anthology. I find that it is well rounded and includes many types of work.

This book is very useful as an anthology for undergraduate studies - as a reference tool, it has proved invaluable for getting quick references, from the early works (Chaucer, Spenser, etc.) to the eighteenth century. Because my copy is a combination of four individual books, it also saves some shelf space, making it quite the doorstopper, but, in the long run, making it necessary. It is recommended for first year undergraduates in English.

With more 'complete works' than ANY other anthology and outstanding textual notes and background chapter headings, no wonder Norton is number one! I've used Heath and Longman and they don't hold a candle to the 'bible' of literature anthologies--Norton.
