This is the first E-reader I have owned. I was already looking into purchasing a tablet but was dismayed at the prices. I like to peruse news articles, and I wanted a device to check my email that was NOT my phone. The price for this product was right for what I needed. The display quality is good enough. As a film enthusiast, I would never recommend watching a movie or a show on such a small screen. However, YouTube videos seem crisp enough to satisfy an occasional video browsing. I am comfortable with the speed of accessing content. The audio is not spectacular, but I usually use headphones, so it does not really matter to me. The only thing I found unsavory was the amount of time it takes to load from being off. It was not too long (about 90 seconds) but I don't like to wait. It came with 50% battery life and it took 80 minutes to fully charge. I have not used the device until the power was depleted, but 3 hours in and the battery is still above 50%. It looks like it will deliver on the advertised 7 hour battery life. I did not need much. I did not want to pay much. So this product was perfect for my needs. (I wrote this review using the same device.)

This is not my first Nook. I have several and I use each one at different times for various reasons. I am just as happy with this Nook as I am with all the others, the original Nook Color being my most favorite. The Nook Tablet is crisp and clear and responds really well. Best of all, it's the lightest. Looking forward to covers being available soon.

In response to Madison, I tested one at my local B&N store. I was able to watch the Limbaugh show and read the Des Moines Register on it with no problems at all. Display was crisp and clear, easy to read and navigate.

Excellent value for the price. The only reason it's not getting 5 stars is the 8gb internal storage. It fills up REALLY fast if you try and put more apps on it. I've now mounted a 128gb microSD card as permanent internal storage. The wi-fi also has a shorter range than I'm used to, but it's not enough of a reason to be unhappy. I've owned a Nook since the first generation of E-Ink and adore my Simple Touch. I've been looking at budget tablets all year, and when I stumbled across this one up for preorder, it was practically a no-brainer. I don't need or want fancy or super fast or a giant screen. Plus full access to the Play store, full Android functionality, AND Marshmallow out of the box? Sold. Even a lot of the high-end tablets don't yet come with Marshmallow out of the box. The reading options within the Nook app, from fonts to filters for screen opacity, knocked my socks off. A blue light filter app is a must for me on any electronic device, and between my Android go-to, the built-in Nook one, and the Nightlight option in Play Books, I can get it just right. This tablet does have Bluetooth. I plan to get a small Bluetooth keyboard for mine so it can take the place of my laptop on short trips. I'm a published romance author under another name, and the ability to write on the go is very important to me. Another major selling point for me on this tablet is the almost stock Android it comes with. I've gotten used to it on my Google phone. Marshmallow on this tablet looks and behaves as Marshmallow should, including total control of which apps can show me notifications. I'm a bit of a techie and no stranger to Android, so I've managed to get the speed of the device improved. Out of the box it is very slow, but a couple of tweaks in developer options and performance sped up dramatically. So if you're techie and enjoy messing with stuff, go hunting. Also impressed with standby battery life. It stayed on standby for three days before I had to charge it again.

Getting it setup is frustrating. You have to activate the side loading to put books from your computer onto the tablet. The Nook Library won't read books from the MicroSD card unless you create a "Nook" folder, and then a "My Documents" folder onto the SD card manually. The device formatting won't actually create this folder for you and tech support won't tell you how to do this. So far I like the android app functionality. That part has improved drastically from the Nook Color I've been using. Reading items purchased through Barnes & Nobel hasn't changed. Setting up non-B&N books shouldn't be as frustrating as it has been though.

9 to 5 Google said it all-easily the best tablet you'll buy this tear for $50. This is my 3rd Nook, after my HD and HD+. Customizable from the Play Store if you want to, access to the rich variety of apps from Google, and much more. I just returned my Amazon HD 8 and bought my Nook 7. The hardware build on the Nook is superior, it's snappy and smooth for just about every task. The Nook 7 is a winner.

This is the best BN tablet ever. Small, light weight and easy to carry around tablet. This tablet display quality is very sharp, very clear. It can add external micro SD card and expanded the storage space to 128Gb. Therefore, I had no problem to install all the apps that I want. The processor speed are running very smooth, very fast. In conclusion, this is a low price and best tablet ever. It is worth to buy it.

The tablet works very well, most appropriate for reading. It has a fast , responsive Android and it is very portable. It does what any good Android tablet does ( this one come with Marshmallow, Android 6.0) but, as always, remember this is a 7 inch tablet. Overall I am satisfied with this Nook and its performance. I like this reader better than the one offered from the competition, it is m ore user friendly. It navigates the internet reasonably well and I recommend this product.

The best thing about the new NOOK 7" is its light weight and small size. You can easily hold it in one hand, using thumb to wipe to turn pages backward and forward, which is a big advantage for ebook readers. Reading books/magazines/streaming video is very smooth without lagging. Bluetooth works well, I can walk around the room without loosing signal. Battery life is good too with 5-6 hours active using. Screen is very comfortable for reading, video is clear and smooth.

I simply love this little gadget! To begin with, I am never a big supporter on reading on tablet. That said, my tablet is only used for web surfing and video streamings for the most part. There are days I don't feel like using my laptop, or my phone, this tablet hence comes into handy for my daily uses these days. Being a long time android user, the interface and setup of the tablet are exactly the same as that of my phone. Ease of use together with the affordable cost, therefore, are the reasons drawn me in buying it home. The size is about right, good storage capabilities with a SC card, and the decent battery life are also some attractive features of the tablet. If I have to make a slight complain that would probably be the processing speed. It is about a second or two slower when starting up apps. The time lagging isn't too big an issue to me, but could be a problem to some. Overall, I think my money is very well spent. I might consider getting a few more for hubby and family for Christmas.

I bought two of these for my grandkids for Christmas. I just received them and started setting them up and I was very pleased with them Great for kids. Lots of apps. I mainly got them for the nook books for kids. Especially the read to me books. I am very thrilled wit them as I am an Ipad user, but would definatley use one for myself if my ipad decides to die on me.

Don't expect to use it as a tablet. There is almost no memory available. It's hard to use and not very responsive. I have the original Nook Color tablet and it's great. This is not nearly as good. You need to buy a SD card to increase memory and it doesn't recognize some of them. I have had nothing but trouble with it. Then they recalled the charger adapter. It's OK for reading books if you don't mind saving most of them in the cloud. wouldn't recommend it.

when will it be available again

I upgraded from the original Nook (literally the very first one), so the charge is much longer and the specs are much better. I love it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap and functional ereader. I only gave 4 stars because it has a an extremely slow response time when loading apps, but other than that it's great.

I just bought this tablet on a whim because of the price and I love it. It was a little confusing at first because I didn't even know that an SD card wasn't a micro SD card. I'm listening to Audible books on it, which Amazon bought recently so it's versatile. I've also watched a Netflix movie. I'm an Apple user so learning this new operating system has been fun. It comes with manuals and lots of easy to understand help and live chats plus I could take it to a Barnes & Noble store. So far it's been really easy to use, way easier than Apple products. It's the best $ I've spent in awhile. That said you really need the micro SD card for a few additional $ but still well worth it. I didn't buy it to read books but now that I own it I probably will use it for books too, starting with a Mark Bittman cookbooks. It's just so easy to use

For 50 bucks, this is amazing. You will want to get an SD card because it fills up fast. Decent battery and reading is nice on here. Casual web browsing and video watching is pretty nice too on here. Not overpriced like iPad.

I have been pleased with all my nooks, and still use them for different purposes and locations. I purchased this one as a travel alternative reader for my son (he has one of the Samsung 10" nooks) and am very impressed by its quality, which is even better considering the low price! Contrary to other commenters, I found it incredible easy to set up, it mirrored (and gave a choice of which one to mirror) one of our other nooks and voila! it was set up, even down to the screen background we had chosen for the other nook. Thank you B&N!

I absolutely love it! My goal was to get away from my ipad and just read and this allows me to concentrate on just that. Its light weight and good to use with one hand and the battery is awesome. I am very happy with this very affordable purchase.

This device is loaded with problems, and I am very dissatisfied with it. By the way, this is a tablet. Some people who reviewed this thing don't know the difference between a tablet and an e-reader. Pros: It's cheap and comes with the Google Play app store and a microSD slot for expandable storage. Cons: I had to exchange it after the first day because it was defective. The apps crash often, and some just randomly disappear and need to be reinstalled. There is only about 1 GB of usable space without a microSD card; even after moving all my apps to the microSD, there wasn't space to update pre-installed apps without clearing the cache. It doesn't come with a built-in blue light filter. The power button is located right where you hold the device, so it's easy to turn it off accidentally. The power adapter had to be recalled, and there's a report of these Nooks being infected with Chinese spyware. For the price, I don't expect great specs, but the device should at least work and not be a hazard.

Fantastic purchase for the price. Great for books and magazines.

I recieved this as a Christmas gift and I love it! It's so light! Perfect for travel and commuting. I bought a couple of children's books for my kids, they are great. All of the ones I purchased have a "read to me" option so my kids can have the nook read to them. I also bought an interactive book so the book had some additional features for the kids. My only negative comment is that I wish the battery life was a little longer.

This tablet is very light. The price is fairly good. But it takes minutes to startup. I can read a lot of books and watch movies with it. I like it.

This is my third nook. I have been using my new nook for about 2 weeks. I can't give it 5 stars because the battery life is stinky! You aren't getting close to 7 hours. If you turn off wifi and Bluetooth, you can almost get 5. That being said, it serves a purpose. I don't want to read on my iPad anymore for a variety of reasons, and my Nook simple touch doesn't have a light. I was between this Nook and the Glow light Plus. The $50 price point sucked me in. I now wish I had popped for the Glow light plus. I do hate having to charge it so much. If the price drops, I will probably splurge for the Glow light plus.

Recently purchased this 7" Nook and I find it to be great for casual use. It's running android system which I thought is great, because then it's not just a ereader, also can check email, play game and watch movie. Very good size and light weight for me to carry out, so I could watch movie or read book during on the subway. Comes with 8gb, can be expand to 128gb, good for store more movies :D Screen resolution and battery life are good. Only the processor a little bit slow, but it is acceptable and hey it's only $50. Overall I think it's pretty good deal for this 7" Nook.

This was an impulse purchase. B&N had it on sale for $10 off. Plus, accessories were 25% off. You could hardly lose. At this point, I've had it a month. I'm very pleased. I had been sort of thinking about getting a smaller, less expensive tablet to carry around with me since my 10 inch Samsung tablet gets awkward for my arthritic hands to hold for extended periods of reading. The Samsung really does work better for surfing, when I'm more likely to prop it up in its case. For the price, I was not expecting a powerhouse of a tablet - and I did not get one. What I got was what I wanted, a small, easy to hold tablet, geared more towards readers than Internet surfers or binge watchers. Despite what others have said, I've not had any problems with lack of storage. Since I don't use for much other than reading and checking my email occasionally, I've only downloaded three apps: Library Thing, Google Documents, and the reading app from that large online seller of practically everything from a to z. I can always check my book wish list. When I have WiFi access, I can check my library catalog on Library Thing. All my apps loaded to the memory card I installed. The screen is crisp and clear enough for extended reading. If you read from your Nook library, you can easily change the color of the screen to avoid eyestrain. Page turns are snappy. However, loading your library may take a moment. Most of the Nook books you download will load to the internal memory. According to the manual, some will load to a memory card, but none of mine have done so. I've not downloaded any books from that other reading app, so I cannot say where they will land. If you are looking for a tablet to do heavy lifting, look elsewhere. This is a tablet geared towards reading and simple tasks. That is what I wanted. If that is what you want, you will probably be pleased with this particular Nook also.
