Review by Jill Williamson I’d been wanting to upgrade my son to an “older” bible, as he’s been getting too old VeggieTales one. ;-) This one is perfect! I love that he has the full Word, the same text that I have in my bible. He feels good about having this new bible, and the cover looks “guy.” He loves the “grossology” sections, which expand on something from a passage that is truly gross. And the “What’s the Big Deal” sections that appear every four pages give further thought into passages. He knows that it really doesn't matter what kind of bible he has, that reading God’s Word is all that truly matters, but I think this particular bible makes him smile and go looking to connect in his own 10-year-old way.

Any boy age 8-13 or so will enjoy The NIV Boys Bible which was just released last month. We all know that boys of all ages enjoy gross things, making noises, actions and details like heads getting chopped off, skeletons coming to life, and how about the crud that came with Jonah when he was spewed from the whale? Gross! But, the NIV Boys Bible is more than gross stuff. There are also several boxes with highlighted things your kids is going to want to read -What¿s the Big Deal? - Need-to-know biblical stories and people Check It Out - Interesting and funny facts about Bible times and characters Grossology - Gross and gory stuff you never knew was in the Bible Makin¿ It Real - Help for applying Bible stories to your everyday life Hundreds of highlighted verses worth memorizing like: Words to Live By:Jesus answered: "I am theway and the truth and the life.No one comes to the Fatherexcept through me." John 14:6Each book has a great introduction of the bible which will tell your kid about what's going on, who wrote that book and what we will learn about. There are fun in-text features which help boys dig deep into the Word and learn about amazing people, facts, and stories of the Bible. This Bible is a great beginner's Bible, not just for kids but I think young adult men would enjoy it too. The NIV version is very easy to read and understand for those that are new Christians or don't care for the KJV. It would make a great gift for Christmas, birthdays, Easter, New Young Christians, First Communion (possibly - depending on the kid and their reading level). It would also be a good Bible for Dad's to read aloud with their sons during the day or at bedtime.

This masculine, tire-tread cover in black and gray makes this Bible appealing to young boys. The inside pages are written in navy blue with rusty orange highlights to catch their attention and make the Bible more exciting to read. The content features are relevant to how boys think (grossology) and yet get to the heart of Biblical issues for their own lives. Headings introduce the topics discussed in each chapter, which helps them recall what they just read. I would like to have seen a section that helps boys learn how to tell the Bible story in their own words, preparing them to be effective leaders and teachers. I especially love all the different features listed below, as they prompt a more active role on the part of the boys to grow stronger in the Lord and be a doer of His Word! The features included are: * Book Introductions–Who, What, When, Where. and Why? * Words to Live By–Hundreds of highlighted verses worth memorizing * What’s the Big Deal?–Need-to-know biblical stories and people * Check It Out–Interesting and fun facts about Bible times and characters * Grossology–Gross and gory stuff they never knew was in the Bible * Makin’ It Real–Help for applying Bible stories to their everyday lives At the end of the Bible are the following features: Table of weights and measures The ABCs of becoming a Christian Through the Bible in a year Bible plan Promises from the Bible Perspectives from the Bible Several pages for personal notes The NIV Boys Bible has been written for tween boys between the ages of 9-12. As a parent, I would love a Bible like this to challenge my son(s) to grow stronger in the Lord and be a doer of His Word! A great gift just in time for Easter! Special thanks to Diane Morrow of The B&B Media Group for sending me a review copy. No monetary compensation was exchanged.

My thoughts: I was happy to be able to review the NIV Boys Bible since I have a 7 year old boy. I liked the hardback cover as well as the size. Inside the font is easy to read and a blue and orange color scheme is used. There are several added features of this Bible. One is called "What's the Big Deal?" These little boxes focus on a short passage of scripture and give an explanation of why this event or person is important. Another feature is called "Makin' It Real," which is a short thought related to the scripture passage regarding something the boy can apply to his own life. It also has verses for memorizing in "Words to Live by" boxes and some added fun facts that boys would find interesting in boxes called "Grossology." I like how these features are scattered throughout the Bible and do not clutter up the text. Each book also begins with a concise introduction about the author of the book, why it was written, and important parts of the book. From a Mom's perspective, I know this Bible appealed to my son when it arrived in the mail. I think this would be a great Bible for a young preteen boy. My son's thoughts: I liked that it had little boxes of words to read. These help you understand more about the Bible. I liked it because it wasn't in cursive. The words were easy to read, but there were some big words too. I like the cover because it looks like a truck bed. This is really a good Bible. You should read it. There was not anything about it I didn't like. I received a copy of this Bible from The B&B Media Group for my honest review.

An amazing boys to keep them searching for more. Throughout the bible there are Check It Out...with fascinating facts and trivia. Grossologs...a boys word for sure!...If it oozes, bleeds, smells, spine tingling, its in the bible. Words words to live by, verses to keep God's Word in your heart. I have a young man in mind to give this to, I think it is ideal for a young teen. I feel that this book will captivate the young mind and make them delve in for more. I received this book from Zonderkidz, and was not required to give a positive review.

I think it's always difficult to market a bible to little kids. It's a little like getting socks for Christmas. I mean for one... it's a book. There are not many books that elicit squeals of joy when a kid get a "book" as a gift. And second... it's the bible. But I have to say Zonerkidz have done a really excellent job with this Boys NIV bible. My son is too young for it, but my wife and I bought for our good friend's eight year old son, and looking through the pages, he was honestly impressed with it. And I can understand part of it, you know? No longer does your bible have pictures in it, or is it "missing parts." Now your bible is just like your Dad's and it's all there for you to read whenever you want. This bible is fun, silly at times, entertaining, filled with great extras and of course, it's God's word. Plus I think some of these kid bibles get dated with "hip verbiage." Nobody is going to buy an Xtreme Faith bible in 2012 are they? But this bible is brand new and will speak to your young man for many years to come.

This Bible is so colorful, it is Olive green hardback what more can I say about a Bible for a boy. It is the New International version and I prefer the KJV but anything to get the message across to our young children. On the inside the pages are written in blue and orange with places to write what they think and it even has some questions for the child to answer and write in her own words. I was just in awe when I receive these in the mail, they ready are beautiful. I am not sure yet who will get my copy as I have 2 little 7 year old boys but I think they are too young so I will probably keep it and pass it on when one of them gets a little older. Even a verse or two always helps. All we need to do is plant the seed and God will see that it grows. The Bible looks just a little boy would love to carry with him to church. It is a little heavy for a young child but I am sure they would be so proud that they would not worry about the weight. I believe any little boy would love one of these and it you have a birthday coming up or even put it into their Easter basket. This word is so much nicer than candy. Pick up a copy for your special little boy and I am sure God will bless you. Thanks so much to The B and B Media group for sending this to me and I have posted my own review.
