Overview

Nicki Fleming is a 10-year-old girl who is a natural with animals. She lives on a working Colorado ranch with her parents and younger brother. She is optimistic, generous, and compassionate, and she loves skiing almost as much as she loves animals. Nicki has a hard time saying "no" to people. Whenever anyone asks for her help, she's ready to lend a hand. When Nicki says "yes" to becoming the main trainer of a service dog that she and her mother had planned to train together, Nicki ends up in over her head, and struggles to juggle multiple responsibilities: to her parents, her best friend, her teacher--and to the dog.

Girls like me can really relate to Nicki, especially when it comes to making decisions. Like Nicki, I also have a hard time saying no, but instead I usually say "Yes" to things I like, not for everything. I think that she wants to stop saying yes to everything because in the book, she seems as if she never has a lot of time to do things, but she still does them. For example, she says "yes" to all her chores (which she is very obedient to her parents--- unlike me!)and said yes to a school project when she really needed all her time with training her dog. She's a procrastinator, also like me, and in this book, you learn a lot of lessons. I learned that if you say "yes" to too many things you won't do well. So, I stick to the things that are most important to me. Hope this review helped.

My daughter is a huge fan of anything American Girl related and this is another hit. It is a great book that any child can enjoy. She couldn't put it down and can't wait to get another one in the series.

This book is about a young girl that lives on a farm. Her mom starts training a guide dog for the local animal shelter. Her mom becomes pregnant. What will happen?? Will Nicki have to train the dog or will they get rid of him? Read Nicki to find out!!

Nicki has one small problem- she can't say "No" when people ask her to do things. She's always been busy with chores and schoolwork, but she finds herself helping out her pregnant mother, caring for a guide dog, and planning the decorations for the school gala. Nicki's activities not only reduce her free time, they also strain her friendship. Nicki finally learns how to say no and how to balance herself a little better.
