Overview

The extraordinary memoir from baseball icon Jackie Robinson—originally published in 1948, just a year after he shattered baseball’s color barrier, and now released as an audiobook for the very first time.

“I’m not concerned with your liking or disliking me…all I ask is that you respect me as a human being.”

So says #42, who comes alive to share his story, up to and through that historic first season, as told to famed sportswriter Wendell Smith, with a foreword by Brooklyn Dodgers General Manager Branch Rickey.

Travel back in time, as the Dodgers legend guides you through his athletic upbringing, his short stint with the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro Leagues, and his breakthrough to the big leagues, at the age of twenty-eight.

About the Author

Jack Roosevelt “Jackie” Robinson was an American baseball player who became the first black Major League Baseball (MLB) player of the modern era.

When he was seven, David Sadzin's first grade teacher gave him a paragraph to read out loud. She interrupted him halfway to proclaim him "The Ringmaster" in his class's musical extravaganza about the circus. He's been using his voice to get out of trouble ever since. After a few intense years on New York's stages, performing traditional and experimental theater, improv, and sketch comedy, he's now settled comfortably in front of the mic in his home studio in Brooklyn.

Kyle Tait is a professionally trained voice actor and sports broadcaster based in Atlanta, Georgia. He’s done voice work for TV and radio ads around the world, corporate training videos, whiteboard and explainer videos, documentaries, audiobooks, and more. He’s narrated more than twenty titles on Audible and iTunes, across genres spanning from sports history to crime thrillers to self-help.

In addition to his voice work, Tait is an established sports broadcaster, calling baseball, basketball, and football on ESPN3, as well as serving as a studio host on multiple national college networks with IMG College.
