At his peak, Chet Baker's playing and singing were original, compelling, and unforgettable; his voice had an innocent, intriguing quality and surprising range, while his trumpet work was as striking and melodically stunning as anyone who's ever worked predominantly in the middle register. These 14 cuts were done in 1954 as Baker turned heads on both coasts. They're presented here in vivid sonic clarity and quality, a reminder of Chet Baker's genuine greatness.

Chet Baker was the first jazz artist to get a hold of me. His haunting vocals and sweet smooth horn will get right at your heart. This is music to be in love to and if you are not in love you will fall in love with whoever is in the room while it is playing. Sweet, sweet, sweet.

because these are the kind songs that speak directly to the heart, the kind that everyone who lives should have the chance to hear.

Though I am plenty old enough, I hadn't heard Chet Baker before about a year ago. Immediately bought this album after hearing "Someone to watch over me" on the radio one afternoon -- What a great talent! Both vocally and on the horn, Mr. Baker rules! A stunning album.

Chet Baker is one melancholic jazz artist marked with beauty and his music transcends into a maze of surrealism. You feel so light hearted jus by listening to this 'angel' that has got millions hooked.
