Sarah Brandt is shattered when she learns that a woman has inquired at Hope’s Daughters Mission for Catherine, the abandoned child she has taken as her daughter. The woman claims she was Catherine’s nursemaid, now acting on behalf of the girl’s mother to reunite them.

Unwilling to simply hand Catherine over to a complete stranger, Sarah asks Malloy to investigate. But when he goes to interview the woman at her tenement in Chelsea, he finds she has been murdered.

Though her death leaves Sarah’s claim to Catherine unchallenged, her sense of justice compels her to work with Malloy to find the killer. Their search takes them from the marble mansions of the Upper West Side to the dilapidated dwellings of lower Manhattan and into the deepest and darkest secrets of Catherine’s past.

And while Malloy helps Sarah determine the fate of the child she loves, he faces a challenge of his own—and his decision could change both their lives forever…

This review is especially for those who found any book in this winning mystery series entrancing. You will love her latest. Many established authors "coast" and soon the reader tires of the "same-old, same-old" quality of his works. But (so far at least) Thompson has avoided that trap. I'm already impatient for her next sure-to-be-classic.

My Favorite of the Series. Another tale in the series that exposes some of the pretense and phony side of New York's upper class of the late 19th Century.. Ms. Thompson has done a good job of portraying a woman's legal rights and social place in the 1890's. Sarah's parents, the Deckers, play a much greater part than in the other books and provide some interesting support. And, I liked the ending. Remember the genre where Victoria Thompson began her work.

In this latest gaslight mystery, the characters we have come to care about are all there, developing stronger ties and spiced with the latest murder. Sara's parents are intimately involved with each aspect of the case. The weaknesses of the police department are such a staple in this series, it is a wonder anything ever gets solved. But solved it is and with the gentle touches of Victoria Thompson, solved in a way both satisfying and genuine. The hardest part of this series is waiting for the next installment. So may I just say, "We are ready, Victoria."

I thoroughly enjoyed this latest (and hopefully not last) adventure of Sarah and Frank, as they solved another murder together. Won't give away the ending, but it really surprised me. Loved it!!

This was absolutely an amazing, intriguing wonderful mystery! All the main characters were as terrific as they always are – even the nosy neighbor lady was more likeable! The whole story just held me from page one and kept me going through the last page, a book you just don’t want to put down!

What do any of these reviews have to do with this book, Murder in Chelsea??

As usual the storyline is great but it felt extremely rushed and left you with the feeling of wanting more. If you are a fan of Nell and Will you will love but definitely will be left with the feeling of wanting more......
