Overview

Families with nothing to hide don’t have so many secrets

Life can change in an instant. For Ryan and Karen Lane, it happens on the morning they discover their twelve-year-old daughter’s window open, their beloved Maddie missing from her bed.

Police investigate. Suspicions swirl. A teenage boy admits he was outside her bedroom window the night she disappeared. A halfway house for convicts recently opened in the neighborhood. The Lane family is thrown into turmoil, then detectives turn their sights on them.

No one is ruled out. Not Karen, with her tragic past, who argued with her daughter. Not Ryan, with his violent streak. Not Maddie’s thirteen-year-old brother, Tyler, who heard voices in her room the night she vanished.

Days, weeks, months, then agonizing years go by without answers, the Lanes fearing that Maddie is gone forever…until a stunning twist shocks everyone, plunging the family deeper into a world of buried secrets whose revelations threaten the very foundation of their lives.

Unexpected twists and turns. I liked how the author would draw you in to think you knew the answers and then - surprise! Wrong again. Well done.

I loved this book!!! i'm a huge fan of Rick Mofina and read almost all of the author's books. This was a breath of fresh air, because it didn't follow his usual format of missing person, crazy terrorist plot and under dog journalist who usually solves the crime (nothing wrong with those books because I enjoyed reading them.)There were so many twists and turns. i never guessed who was involved or the ending. I felt horrible for Ryan, Karen and Tyler. The police were determined that they were the culprits behind Maddie's disappearance. They did look like likely suspects. I had no idea who was behind everything until it was finally revealed and I was SHOCKED. Jack Gannon even makes an appearance (a very brief one.) Loved the story, characters and writing style. I was hooked from the the very beginning and couldn't put it down because I needed to find out what happened to Maddie. Definitely recommend the book. This is one of my favorite books by the author. It was captivating and was a great mystery/suspense. I can't wait to read more!!! I received a complimentary copy of this book from HARLEQUIN - MIRA (U.S. and Canada) through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I loved this book! I could barely put it down when I had to. It gripped me from the first page. So many twists and turns. I was sure I had it figured out and then suddenly, I didn't. Great charater development, lots of family secrets, great suspense. If you like mysteries, this one is for you!

You think it is repetition of the questions, they ask and ask over and over. Then you realize this is how it is done in real life. They are looking for any clue, the way the questions are answered. Makes one realize that nothing is hidden when a child is missing. The innocence for all adults, or children will never be the same. Of their secrets, the fears, will be known and recorded. This had many twists and turns, filled with deep emotions, as the author does so well. My other thought let kids who want to run away read, and maybe grasp, of what that action will bring. Lives will never be the same if they do. This was another winner for the author and for us as readers.
