Overview

Anthony Minghella's writing "sets a standard of emotional truth and clarity so sublimely high that everything around it looks stale, flat, tawdry and obvious" (The Times)

Whale Music is: "genuinely tender, poignant and spikily anti-amle all at once" (Daily Mail); A Little Like Drowning "makes you laugh, makes you cry and makes you think" (Guardian); Two Planks and A Passion "is one of the best new plays I have seen in the past decade" (Financial Times)

Best known for his award-winning directing and screenplay adaptations of 'The Talented Mr. Ripley' and 'The English Patient',this first collection of Anthony Minghella's plays, confirms his enormous talent as a playwright. Each play in this collection is moving and lyrical. 'Whale Music' is a richly layered story of one woman's struggle with an unplanned pregnancy. Though the subject matter is intense, there is much humour and warmth. It is deeply affecting. Also included in this collection is a touching play 'A Little Like Drowning','Two Planks and a Passion' and the 1986 Plays and Players Best New Play Award-winning 'Made in Bangkok'. I found all of these plays insightful and entertaining with captivating dialogue. This introduction to Minghella's superb playwriting skills and will entice you to read more of his work.
