Overview
This inky mood-expander seems to have hitched a ride on the tail of a comet passing through lunar shadows. One catches flickers of light -- just enough detail to sense the passage of time and space. Abstract tones wail from the electric guitar, EBow, and fretless bass. Steve Roach loops and layers sounds that echo from unseen surfaces, like swamp mists rising in the chilly moonlight. Some tones are as deep as a whale's throat, while other sounds whistle like wind through barbed wire. "Later Phase" builds layers of metallic dewdrops into a paisley palette, yet the most pervasive attention-grabber is the tiny, tinny breath that cycles in from the upper left of your aural space. MIDNIGHT MOON is deliciously dark, creating a strange peace despite its mysterious shadowy atmosphere. It's like feeling right comfy in the graveyard. Great stuff!
