My daughter is in second grade and learning how to use the dictionary, and the meaning of words. I wanted to get her a dictionary that was easy to use, yet was colorful with great illistrations. Illistration is very important to me. This dictionary offered the most definitions of words and was the most appealing to me. Prior to purchasing the childrens dictionary I also selected a dictionary for the adults in the house. It just so happens that I chose the same, DK, for the same reasons. I highly reccomend DK for quality and quantity of words. Hope this helps to make your choice easier.

This dictionary is just what I was looking for. My young son needed a good dictionary to help him with his homework. I would not recommend this dictionary if it is something you plan on carrying in a backpack, as it is very heavy. For home use, it is perfect!

This dictionary is very good for kids. My step daughter is 7 and whenever she reads something in the dictionary, there are little side stories and pictures that interest her, so she usually reads more than was first intended. I would really recommend this dictionary to anyone that is trying to build vocabulary, initiate interest in reading and diverse subjects, and just opening their children up to new things.

This dictionary has been great for my rising 5th grader. His other children's dictionary was too simplistic and didn't include many of the words he was needing to look up. I would highly recommend this dictionary as a bridge between a basic children's dictionary and a regular dictionary.

My 8 year old who is in second grade saved her money and purchased her first dictionary. It is one of her favorite books. She loves the colors, pictures, and the ability to find words easily. She is learning to read and enjoys finding new words to use in her daily conversations. This dictionary is very engaging.

I wish I'd had this dictionary when I was an elementary school student. I purchased this for a first-grade boy and was pleased that he seemed so taken with it. He can read some and when he found an interesting picture he asked for help with the definition. I have learned to trust this brand and was pleased with the quality of the book. I predict that the boy will find it useful for years.

I'm trying to purchase a good dictionary for my 4yr old since he loves to use big words and is always aware of the meaning so I think this might be the one for him. Fingers crossed.

As far as dictionaries go, this one is tops for kids. I had one already but my kids argued over who was going to use it, so I bought another. As with the first, the binding is not great and the spine just comes away from the book easily. However, as far as what it is for, looking up their vocabulary words with ease and understandable definitions, it couldn't be better.

I bought this dictionary for my first grade son. We are doing a lot of reading together and he is discovering new vocabulary every day. So I thought, it would be useful to have a dictionary at hand. After reviewing several other options, I chose this dictionary. It has wonderful pictures and good definitions. He cannot use the dictionary by himself, but every time we read a book, he rushes to bring his dictonary to me. Even my 5 year old is interested to look and see what is in the dictionary. I recommend this dictionary to all parents who are willing to do a little bit of work themselves. It is an excellent way to enrich the vocabulary of kids.
