Overview

Even many years after her death, Marilyn Monroe is still one of the greatest legends of the twentieth century. In her movies she projected a unique and fascinating persona — a child-woman who was both innocent and full of sexuality, someone men desired, but women found unthreatening. In real life, she was a beautiful and complex woman with deep insecurities, and who just wanted to be loved.

Marilyn Monroe: Unseen Archives charts Marilyn's fascinating life, from her unhappy childhood, through her years as a superstar, to her tragic and untimely death in 1962. The collection of photographs documents the important events in her life: her early years, her movies, her marriages to baseball star Joe DiMaggio and playwright Arthur Miller, her battles with the studio and her decline in health. They not only include movie stills and portraits, but also many other less well known pictures taken during her career. The photographs are accompanied by detailed and informative captions, which give a rounded portrait of one of the world's greatest movie stars.

Marie Clayton studied popular culture at Bournemouth University (UK) and went on to become a designer, journalist and author. She has a particular interest in cultural icons of the twentieth century and has written and edited several books, including The Beatles: Unseen Archives, Elvis Presley: Unseen Archives and The Romanov Legacy.

I think I got this from my brother for Christmas like 3 or 4 years ago. I've always thought Marilyn was a fascinating character but I've never really read anything about her. Since then, I read "Blonde" and was pretty disappointed. This isn't really an in-depth book or anything. It's mostly pictures with brief summaries of what was going on in her life. It was nice to read this after having read a fictional version of her life and seeing where the facts align. The book itself is great with numerous photographs, but I was disappointed in that it was pocket-sized.

This book is outstanding!!!!It is truly amazing...the pictures are great and reproduced on really good paper. Not only are the photos great but the writing included and the captions are detailed with little known facts. Since this book was published by Barnes and Nobles it was really inexpensive but GREAT quality. I suggest this book to anyone who loves Marilyn as much as i do.
