About the Author

Beaufort B. Longest, Jr., Ph.D., FACHE, is the M. Allen Pond Professor of Health Policy & Management in the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh and Founding Director of the University’s Health Policy Institute.
He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the Academy of Management, AcademyHealth, American Public Health Association, and the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management. He consults with health care organizations and systems, universities, associations, and government agencies on health policy and management issues, and is a prolific author in the fields of health policy and management.
Kurt Darr, J.D., Sc.D., is Professor of Hospital Administration in the Department of Health Services Management and Leadership at The George Washington University. He holds a Doctor of Science from The Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Hospital Administration and a Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Darr is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the District of Columbia and Minnesota Bars. He served for 20 years as a mediator in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and serves on a panel of mediators for the American Health Lawyers Association.
