A little slow getting going with this first of Trollope's novels for me. The flow of the language, the Irish dialect, and the lack of knowledge of life in the era and place, left me grasping occasionally for what was going on. But, like foreign film, your brain seems to adapt after awhile and it ceases to be too much of a problem. With that said, the ending was full of unexpected surprises for me and the final quarter of the book was almost exciting and hard to put down; a regular courtroom drama. There were chapters (the horse-race auction!!) that seemed completely unnecessary that i had trouble staying focused on, and in fact upon reaching the end of the book, to my mind at least, they were unnecessary. No regrets. Trollope was incredibly prolific and I do look forward to continuing through his works.
