Jeffrey Brown is the author of numerous Star Wars themed books. In Lucy & Andy Neanderthal, he changes course going from science fiction to the Stone Age. The story centers around two siblings, Lucy and Andy. Lucy’s bright and Andy’s always managing to get into trouble. They both often feel left out. Many times they’re told they can’t do something because they’re either not old enough or just not ready. A lot of kids can identify with that. This is a graphic novel, and it’s chock full of information about the Neanderthals; how they hunted, made clothes and tools, their cave drawings. It’s humorous, too. Middle graders are sure to find it funny. They’ll enjoy the author’s artwork, his story, and maybe learn a little something, too.
Lucy & Andy Neanderthal is the story of a family of Neanderthal's living 40,000 years ago. As we learn what Lucy and her younger brother, Andy experience on a daily bases, from watching the elders kill mammoths to eat to making their own clothing. It ends with a surprise with meeting humans and even a bigger surprise for what is to come in the future for these two young kids!! I really enjoyed reading this book, it will get you captivated wanting to learn more about that time era! I can see this book being a big hit with kids since it's in a comic form, full of adventure and even if they don't know it, it will make them learn more about Neanderthals! The ending was a little confusing since it ends with the story and jumps into this cool history lesson but it then goes back to what is to come next in this series. Overall, this was a great read that I will be looking forward to reading the next book in this series!! Thank You to Jeffrey Brown for making learning about Neanderthal's so fun!! I received this book from the Publisher in exchange for a honest review.
