The first book in a delightful new beachside cozy mystery series!

Trouble is brewing in Everly's new café. Can she bag the culprit?

Life hasn't been so sweet for Everly Swan over the past couple of years, but now that she is back in her seaside hometown and the proud owner of a little iced tea shop and café right on the beach, things are finally starting to look up—until a curmudgeonly customer turns up dead on the boardwalk. With one of her hallmark glass tea jars lying right next to him and an autopsy that reports poison in his system, it doesn't look good for Everly or her brand new business.

As the townspeople of Charm, formerly so welcoming and homey, turn their back on Everly, she fights to dig up clues about who could have had it in for the former town councilman. With a maddeningly handsome detective discouraging her from uncovering leads and a series of anonymous attacks on Everly and her business, it will take everything she's got to keep this mystery from boiling over.

I'll admit I wasn't sure about this at first, but the more I read, the more I was liking it. This one was really good. The main character of Everly I really liked. And of couse Grady. Oh that character was something but there's more to him. Also love the setting. The mystery and writing and pace was good in this. Also while I never had sweet tea, but the way the different teas are described, it does sound good. Anyway, looking forward to more from this series.

Live and Let Chai Seaside Cafe Series #1 Bree Baker Sourcebooks Landmark, Jul 2018 352 pages Cozy mystery Purchased on nook ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.5 The cover is colorful, eye-catching and full of items that totally relate to the story. Even the seagull is part of the story! The story is pretty good. Everly Swan has returned to her hometown of Charm and opened an iced tea and goodies place right on the beach. She has about 30 different secret family recipes for iced tea and is very excited about this venture. Then one disgruntled customer turns up dead near her cafe with one of her iced tea mugs and an indication of poison. The whole town seems to turn against her even though she and her aunts are so well-known in town. There’s a handsome detective (of course) who is trying his best to discourage her from sticking her nose into his investigation of the murder. But Everly figures if she doesn’t solve the case, no one will. While still trying to run her newly opened iced tea shop and keep town opinion more positive than negative, Everly attempts to track down a killer. She seems to have set off some attempts on her own life in the process and things get a bit rough. The pace is brisk and the tension is always high as the author takes us from one new development to another. Looks like this could be another good cozy series. I recommend this book to cozy mystery readers.

The descriptions of the Southern coastal town of Charm, North Carolina on the Outer Banks were fantastic as well as the characters of Everly, her aunts Clara and Fran, and a hunky new detective Grady Hays. I loved the coastal setting and the descriptions made me feel like I was at the beach enjoying a glass of sweet tea at Sun, Sand and Tea. Everly is a great main character and made me laugh on numerous occasions. The town sounded ideal, except for the murder of course. I wish that I could visit Sun, Sand and Tea for a nice glass of peach sweet tea and a cucumber sandwich and a chat with Everly. I can't wait to learn more about Everly and her family and the charming town of Charm!

Having read other series by this author, under different names, I had big expectations for this book, and it met every one of them! The concept seemed very original to me -- owning an ICED tea shop, as opposed to some other {very very good!} series that involve hot tea shops. I'm a fan of tea in all it's forms, but now that the weather here is warming up, I find myself craving iced tea more often. And the descriptions of Everly's teas in her cafe had me drooling! I fell absolutely in love with the characters, too. Everly, the great aunts, Detective Hays, and all the other town characters. And, of course, Maggie the cat. Any book that has an animal with a real personality always wins me over! The mystery itself was very well done. I was thoroughly shocked at the point of the reveal. It all made sense when the whole story was laid out, but I surely didn't see it coming! I highly recommend this one to all cozy lovers, especially fans of a tasty glass of iced tea! *5 Stars

Usually I read fiction that is a little more heavy/serious than this; how happy I am to, on a whim, have read this. There was constant action, you always wanted to read what was going to happen next. Many of the "next happenings" were very original, and believable. It wasn't just a boy-girl chasing and catching each other. There was enough fill in the blanks yourself type stuff to add to the page turning mood. Very often I can tell who was the one "who dunnit." In this story I was totally surprised and had not even thought that was the nasty person. Great Book Bree Baker!

Easily one of my favorite books of 2018, and now in my top five must read series! When I first read about the Seaside Café Mystery series, I knew I had to check it out. Between the shore atmosphere and the Sun, Sand, and Tea café that sells varieties of teas, I was sure I couldn’t go wrong. All I have to say is, I underestimated just how much I was going to love it! LIVE AND LET CHAI is everything I look for in a cozy mystery. And I do mean everything! 1 - Starting with the characters. Everly Swan is 100% the protagonist that cozies call for. She’s bright, fun, hardworking, has self-doubts (don’t we all?), and is far from the perfect sleuth. The cast of supporting characters, Everly’s aunts, her friend Amelia, and Detective Grady Hayes, just to name a few, help to add enjoyment to every page. 2 - There is NO profanity in LIVE AND LET CHAI! While I am trying to learn to overlook certain small curse words such as h*ll and d*mn, if they are used in very short supply, I still feel profanity has no place in a cozy mystery. 3 - As I mentioned at the beginning of my review, the setting is ideal. And with author Bree Baker’s descriptions, I could vividly see every sight, hear every sound, and smell every aroma she spoke of. 4 - Ms. Baker knows how to write a captivating whodunit. There are two mysteries in LIVE AND LET CHAI. One is a smaller mystery within the main one. It was fun trying to figure out if they were related in any way. As for the main story . . . Oh my goodness. There were several suspects, all with good reasons for wanting the victim dead. I finally settled on who I thought was the most likely killer only to read the surprising reveal and discover I was wrong. And just when I thought everything was over and done, the author throws in a twist at the end that now has me not so patiently waiting for the next installment! If you’re looking for a great cozy mystery, a true, old fashioned one, LIVE AND LET CHAI is the book for you!

I really enjoyed this debut cozy by Bree Baker. It has a cozy beach setting in a town as charming as its name—Charm, North Carolina. I liked the characters, especially protagonist, Everly and her wonderful great aunts, Clara and Fran. The plot is action packed with lots of humor. There’s a white kitty to love named Maggie who hangs out with Evie. Not only does the plot contain a murder mystery, it also has a mystery involving several Little Library houses and some sneaky sand bandits trying to spoil the generosity of Everly’s friend, Amelia. I warmed up to the towns new detective, Grady Hays, his son, Denver, and au pair, Denise. The ending of the story clearly wraps up the murder mystery and leaves intriguing questions about Grady’s past! I’m eagerly anticipating the next story!

I’m ready to move to Charm, and when you read Live and Let Chai, you will be too! As soon as I finished this, I was ready for another. No Good Tea Goes Unpunished, book 2, comes out in February, so I have that to look forward to. Charm is a fictional seaside town in North Carolina’s Outer Banks area. It’s got eclectic shops and characters! Living in a seaside town is my dream. I’d be like Everly’s friend Amelia and own a bookstore. The author made Charm feel real with her descriptive writing and believable, yet quirky, characters. I loved getting acquainted with the characters in Live and Let Chai. Everly is certainly a fun character. I’d love to eat and have tea at Sun, Sand, and Tea while catching up on the latest. Her aunts are awesome. I feel like they’d fit right in with Cassie on Good Witch, one of my favorite shows. Of course, the cat is super important too! My favorite cozy mystery books usually have cats. And my bookstore would have cats! The new detective in town is definitely a character you’ll come to appreciate. The supporting cast of characters were all well-written too. Since this is a cozy mystery, the murder isn’t too gruesome and the mystery is one you can solve if you follow the clues. This has just the right amount of clues…it’s not too obvious or difficult to solve. I highly recommend Live and Let Chai and give it 5 huge stars!

Dollycas’s Thoughts Welcome to Charm. Everly Swan has just opened her iced tea shop and café in a historic home on the beach, but not everyone is happy about it. Benedict Paine is being a royal pain. He is using his position as councilman to try to close Everly down. When he is found dead on the boardwalk with one of the canning jars she serves her tea in close by, she quickly becomes the prime suspect. Why would she do that? Sabotage her new business over a grumpy old man? Unfortunately, the town of Charm is no longer charming. Thanks to a certain detective Everly has lost all her customers and the formerly charming residents believe she actually killed Paine. Everly is teed off and knows the only way to save her business is to find the killer herself, no matter how much trouble she gets into with that certain detective. But that also puts her in the killer’s crosshairs. This new series is off to a delightful start! Bree Baker has created realistic and engaging characters. Everly has come home to Charm and opened Sand, Sun, and Tea. Her aunts own the Blessed Bee honey shop not far from Everly’s. There is a superstition that the woman in the family are cursed when it comes to love. Enter one hunky detective, who is new in town and seems to set Everly’s heart aflutter, that is when he is NOT announcing to everyone she is a murderer or lecturing her NOT to get involved in his case. Our amateur sleuth does get in a little over her head and enough to make the real killer nervous. I really enjoyed her relationship with her aunts. They are an amazing support system. They are there to help her in any way she needs and their confidence in her success shines through. There are a couple of mysteries to solve. Of course, the murder of the councilman, but there was also someone vandalizing the cute little box libraries along the beach. It gets me pretty upset when people destroy books. Okay, back to the main mystery, the murder. Knowing Everly didn’t do it I zeroed in on two suspects right away. There were many clues telling me I was correct in my thinking and it wasn’t long before I narrowed down the suspects to one. I love it when I am right! The setting, a beach, sand, sun, iced tea, a bookstore, little libraries, was a wonderful escape. I would give almost anything for a beach vacation. And this book is a wonderful book to read while lounging on the beach or by the pool. Ms. Baker’s words will take you there too if you are sitting on your deck with no water around or in your comfy chair inside your house like I was. This was a very entertaining read. My interest has been piqued, I want to get to know these characters better and am very interested in where the author is going to take them.
