"This is first-rate child’s fare. . . . Sure to make both listeners and readers feel warm and happy when they put it down." — Booklist (starred review)

There are lots of dogs of all shapes and sizes at the animal shelter. But Kate and her mom and dad know they want Dave the moment they see him. He’s small and cute and a perfect fit for the end of Kate’s bed. But then they see Rosy, who is old and gray and broad as a table. How can they take home just one dog when there are so many wonderful animals who need a home? Bob Graham creates an original, endearing family in a touching story that will appeal to animal lovers everywhere.

After the lose of her cat, Kate's parents took her to the animal shelter for a "pup" that Kate so enthusiastically suggested. One dog, Dave, wasn't enough once the family noticed a larger dog that touched their hearts. The next day, the family went back to the animal shelter and added Rosy to the family. Fun illustrations.

Young Kate and her parents visit the Animal Rescue to bring home a new addition for their family, Dave. But upon leaving, their hearts are tugged by another dog, who they decide to return for the next morning. Heartwarming without being sappy. Great illustrations. Good for pre-school storytime or 1st and 2nd grades.
