It's an enjoyable light read full of wisecracking commentary from the main character. Unfortunately that's about all it's got. All the other characters come across as barely fleshed out side notes there to give the main character an audience. The story line was not really advanced at all from the previous book and there is a hint of tiredness creeping into the series. I think there is still more story to be told but the story line needs to be strengthened and the other main characters need to be given a stronger presence. That being said as a fan of the series it was an enjoyable book to read.

This book takes a series that was previously fairly good and drives into the ground. If I could get my money back I would. The author takes the main character, a werewolf who fights against the corrupt and genocidal establishment, and turns him into an order taking gestapo stoolie. Instead of standing up for his friends and beliefs he just inexplicably rolls belly up and betrays himself, his ideals, and his friends for no reason at all. Its really that bad. He just flat out refuses to face the biggest villain in the story and becomes a yesman for him. Its not a play to set the villain up, its not because the villain has leverage or hostages. The hero, and I say that with as much disgust as I can, simply betrays everything and everybody from the previous books for no discernable reason. The author even makes the "hero" play second string to a nonentity with no political, societal, or moral authority. This secondary character who is blatantly a bad person just steamrolls him cause reasons. I can't say this book is the biggest disappointment I've ever read, but its certainly the biggest in the last year or two. I highly recomend you skip this book and let the series end on the last one. Its not a great way to end what was a decent and entertaining tale, but its far better than reading this disaster and then hating the entire series.

I really like the sarcastic humor . It was nice to see the relationship with Sig develop slowly . Not the rush to bed that sometimes plague others. There was some longer than necessary dialog with himself that bothered me . He got a family and that made me happy .

Fun, but not my favorite of the series.

I've bought all the books in this series, and I have enjoyed all of them. The stories are fun, funny and entertaining. If you are looking for a Song of Ice and Fire then move on. However, if you are looking for a good quick read that keeps you interested until the end, give Mr. James a try.

Very entertaining, as usual. The genius who said this book didn't advance the overall stoty arc is plainly another less successful writer, since that criticism is palpably untrue.

Looking forward to the next one.
