As i said in my review of Volume One of the Little House Books I loved these books. However, I recommend reading Volume One prior to reading this second volume to get the full picture of the Ingalls' life. I found the Long Winter to be the most difficult book in this volume, due not to its length but the hardship the family endured was very touching and at times heartbreaking. Readers who watched the television show will find a much richer portrait of this poineer family.
