this was a book that was well researched. the author had great information from individuals who were both fighting in the battle for berlin and the civilians who were involved and affected by this last battle. the author kept you involved with the events leading up to the decision on who was going to make the final attack on the city and how the germans were going to defend the city with troops who hitler believed were there, but most of the troops he was bringing into the battle were merely on paper or were either young men or elderly. hitler knowing the war was lost really didnt care for the welfare of his peoploe and wanted to destroy them and the city and the entire country. you understand how people in the city felt and how some officers and officials would not follow hitler's orders for destroying factories, bridges and other facilities. this was an excellent book and ranks up there with the other war books by cornelius ryan.

Intimidating book. Could not have been easy to write, not with the dozens of people and thousands of details involved. An monumental popular history of the battle for Berlin at the end of World War 2. Mandatory for WW2 history buffs.
