In the very olden time there lived a semi-barbaric king, whose ideas, though somewhat polished and sharpened by the progressiveness of distant Latin neighbors, were still large, florid, and untrammeled, as became the half of him which was barbaric. He was a man of exuberant fancy, and, withal, of an authority so irresistible that, at his will, he turned his varied fancies into facts. He was greatly given to self-communing, and, when he and himself agreed upon anything, the thing was done.

This story was extremely well-written. Frank Stockton has mastered the art of building suspense and his characters were well-developed despite the shortness of the story. This book is perfect for discussions, especially due to its unresolved ending. Be prepared to finish the story and immediately think, "WHAT???? WHAT HAPPENED????????!!!!!!!!!!" I would highly reccomend this story to readers aged twelve and up, simply due to difficult vocabulary. Well done, Frank Stockton!!!

I think that the book really makes you think and you are the one who really decides the ending. I liked how I did not have to just go along with whatever the book said; I was able to decide the ending for myself.

Th ending was a little shaky at first but you finally read it and it turned out ok but the auther needed to put more infomatoin into the book about the lover. But other than that it was an ok book to read.
