About the Author

C. L. Wilson wrote her first story at age six, and though she took a number of long detours during her life, she never gave up her lifelong dream of being published. Many years, hundreds of false starts, and five completed novels later, she received "The Call" in October 2006 and sold her epic fantasy romance, Tairen Soul, at auction. Her debut novel spent two weeks on the USA Today bestseller list, and her subsequent novels have gone on to hit a variety of lists, including USA Today, New York Times, and Publishers Weekly. When not writing, C. L. enjoys relaxing with her husband and three children in sunny Florida and daydreaming of a world where people exercise in their sleep and chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream is a fat-burning food.

As a bookseller, sometimes we get advanced copies of books from authors that are not well known. A little over a year ago I found a copy of Lord of the Fading Lands that we had received. And while you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, that's what drew my interest to pick it up. So glad I did! C.L. Wilson is an author to watch! She has an artist¿s way with words. She's created a truly magical world filled with Fey, evil Mages, wonderful creatures called the Tarin and spun her own special weave of love, friendship, honor and sacrifice. Her characters gain more depth with each new volume of the series, and while I love the main storyline of Raine and Ellysetta, I also have to admit her other characters have me hooked as well. Connecting the dots between the supporting characters, both Fey, Celerian, Eld, and the Tairen is a fascinating puzzle. Galen is my favorite secondary character. Why do I always like the 'bad' boys? :) This third installment of the Fading Lands does not disappoint. It picks up right where the ending of Lady of Light and Shadows left off with Raine bringing Ellysetta back to the fading lands. The lovers face numerous challenges: The Mages of Eld are planning another war, Ellysetta still doesn't understand her vast powers nor how she will help save the Tairen. Not to mention the High Mage is trying to claim her soul. And just HOW are the Fay going to react when they see Galen, the former dahl'reisen Dark Lord returning home? dahl'reisen are considered 'lost souls'...those who have strayed from the Fey path of honor due to killing so many others (in battle, etc) and the weight of those souls becomes too much for them to bear and they are banished from the Fading Lands. The Fey do not look kindly upon their 'fallen' brothers. Now Ellysetta is bringing one of them, the most notorious, home with her. But first they have to get through the Faering Mists that guard the Fading Lands. The Tairen are counting on her to save them. The ferocious winged felines (the size of Clydesdales) are the source of the Feys magic, and are connected somehow to the life force of the Fading Lands. The kitlings are dying in the eggs and no one can figure out why. If you like Fantasy stories with strong female characters (as well as compelling male ones), stories that bring the Fey out of legend, the creation of fascinating creatures like the Tairen, Good vs Evil on an epic scale, and a true love that lasts no matter what, then you will love this series. I guarantee it. And don't miss the next and final chapter of Raine and Elly's story, The Queen of Song and Souls, due out in March of '09. I can't wait!!!

Ms. Wilson has again lived up to her previous novel in the Tairen Soul Series! In "King Of Sword and Sky" the tale continues on impeccably without unnecessary repetition while remaining both thrilling and romantic. The story maintains the plot and rhythm of the first two books while further devloping the characters bringing them to, vibrant, life and holding ones attention until the very last page. I am awaiting her next novel anxiously!

The evil High Eld Mage destroyed much of the Fey and Tairen. Both races seem on the brink of extinction with little hope for surviving. However, one individual based on an ancient prophesy may be the savior the true mate of the Fey King --- The problems are that the true mate of Fey King Rain Tairen Soul is Ellysetta Baristani she is linked to their lethal enemy besides she mourns her losses as her mom was killed in the recent assault. War is inevitable and Rain understands the significance of Ellysetta to the cause. However, most of his allies starting with the nobles of Celieria and other supporters do not trust her due to her direct ties to the High Eld Mage. Without her the king knows they lose even as he wearily yet heroically tries to save the Tairen kitlings. --- The third Fey-Tairen fantasy (see LORD OF THE FADING LANDS and THE LADY OF LIGHT AND SHADOWS) is a great addition to one of the stronger genre series in years. The gloom and doom is spreading with the Fey King and his true mate the only hope to halt the evil advance and ultimately defeat it, but Rain knows his allies distrust his true mate as they believe she is aligned with the malevolent lethal enemy. Thus a relatively simplistic scenario leads to a complicated societal order that enhances the ¿reality¿ factor. Fans of good vs. evil fantasy epics will want to read this entertaining saga. --- Harriet Klausner

I love this series, just finished reading all 3 in the past three days just because I couldn't put it down. The details are vivid and enthralling along with a cast of characters that you care for. I mean, there are the main characters but you are introduced to many side characters that become nearly as important to you as the main characters are because each one plays an important part in the story. There is a sense of being absorbed into the story because the details are great, but not too overbearing in amount. Also, it creates a small sense of real world with part of the battles in the series being simply diplomatic arguments. Truly, although there are great battles, sometimes it seems like the real difficulty in the series is politics and personal. Which creates a wonderful love story that is done well beside an adventure story. Perhaps the greatest fact is that in this love story, the adventure is not second rate as in many romance novels or vice versa because both are equally great in this series.

The books that C.L. Wilson writes are the best I have read in a long time. I can read them straight through because I don't want to put them down. And then when I am not reading them I am thinking about what the characters are doing. SO reading these books are a great way to escape from the humdrum reality of life. This is the third book of the series and it is just as well written as the first two. I love the way the story continues from book to book like you never put it down. I would highly advise others to read this book and the first and second one as well. I can hardly wait for the next to come out.

Once I have read each book in this series I end up going back and rereading them just to see what I missed the first time. C.L. Wilson is great in her ablility to weave her magical writing through out the book. I have found that some of her softer statements in the first and middle of the book end up carrying a lot of weight or are finish toward the end of the book. Example: Rain looks into Ellie's eyes and knows that she seeing him much better than he deserves according to him but a the end of the book he finially sees that he can be everything she see. She has a way of seeding the story with little signs of what is to come, some of these you pick up on and some you never see until she desides to open the door and use it. Each book in the Tairen Series can stand along in its on right but I find I have to read it all------Over and over again. She has also set up several other stories that can spin off this one. I hope they do. One of the best fantasy romance writers I have ever read.

This book was Outstanding.Better then the first two, and I cannot wait to read Queen of Song and Souls to hear how the battle continues/ends, and the hopeful conclusion of the Rain/Ellysetta story. The magic weaves of C.L Wilson are simply beautiful and descriptively amazing. This series has everything. Love, Deceit, Evil, Good, Jealousy, War, Heartbreaking losses, and Triumph. As well as a host of other emotions.Well worth a read, or two ;)

Though I have not yet read the previous two books in this amazing fantasy series, I can confidently tell you that anyone who has not read this series is missing out! When I found out that I had managed to snag an ARC copy of King of Sword and Sky from LT's Early Review program, I tried to find the first two books at my local library, hoping to read them before this one arrived so that I would not be lost. Sadly, my library only had one of them, Lord of the Fading Lands, and someone had it checked out for the next month. Even though I picked up King of Sword and Sky with no prior knowledge of the series or the fantasy world that it envolved, I was only 'lost' a few times in the story, and even then it was only briefly and it did not damage the over all enjoyment of the book. I do plan on going back to read the first two books as soon as I can, but I have to say that even though this was written as a series, this book could almost be a stand alone, though I am sure that if you read them all in order you will triple your enjoyment of the captivating series. King of Sword and Sky is an amazing combination of romance and fantasy, magic and passion, adventure and mystery. It's not just fantasy, it's not just romance, but it's a perfect mix of all of that, and so much more. The love is sweet and tender, the characters are interesting and funny, strong when they need to be, and the sex is pretty intense too! As bestselling paranormal romance author Christine Feehan is quoted to have said about this book: "A brillant, sensual must read." ***Please NOTE, again, that those are not my words--- they belong to C.F. and are written on the front of the ARC cover!****From page one, heck, from book one, you are drawn straight into this mystical world of fantasy and love, strength and evil, and you won't be able to put it down until the very end! I had heard that this was suppose to be the last book, but the ending seems... lacking, like there is suppose to be more books to come. Perhapes there is and I simply misunderstood, which is entirely possible since I am new to this compelling series. Even if this was suppose to be the last one for sure, the ending is still wrapped up nicely, so you will not be left asking 'Wait, but what about...'. But I do hope that C.L. Wilson writes more after this, because I can honestly say that I am now hooked!4.5/5 STARS! A brillant story, a spectacular series, worthy of awards and many re-reads. A definite must read for any fantasy fan, romance fan, or just plain book lover. Prepare to be sucked into the world of the Tarien Soul just might want to stay there and never leave!

I enjoyed this 3rd book in the Tairen Soul series more than the 2nd, although they are all good. The relationship between Ellie and Rain continues to grow while the evil forces of the Eld grow stronger. There is a fantastic battle in the end, with many questions still unanswered. Ellis has figured out how to save the tairen, but there is so much else for her to do. Two more books!

In this third installment from C.L. Wilson, Ellysetta Baristani is finally married to the Tairen Soul, Rain, who is King of the Fey, and on her way to her new home in the Fading Lands. But to enter the Fading Lands, Ellysetta must first pass through the Faering Mists. None of the Fey know if Ellie will be able to pass through the Mists as no one who has been mage marked has ever done so, and Ellie has two mage marks received by the High Mage Vadim Maur. The Fey Oracle, the Eye of Truth, has foretold that only Ellysetta can save the Fey from the mysterious illness that is killing their kitlings at birth. But to have any chance at saving the kitlings, she must first pass through the Faering Mists.High Mage Vadim Maur had Ellysetta in his grasp but underestimated her power and she managed to escape. He has mage marked Ellie twice now as he plans to make her his new vessel as his mortal body is finally dying after 1000 years. He ruthlessly continues to track her through her dreams and sends his minions after her and her family.King of Sword and Sky will keep you reading from page one without letting you up for air until the last page.

King of Sword and Sky portrays the classic theme of the struggle between good and evil. Using characters familiar to fantasy fans (including mages, the fey, and elves), Wilson's romantic fantasy explores the decisions that those fighting for good must make in their battle against evil. Is it acceptable to use a small amount of evil in an eternal war? Does the smallest taint of evil undo all of the good a person has done and will do.Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the book are the fantastic Tairen, a beast that seems to be somewhat akin to the griffin. These magnificent beasts are the true soul of the Fading Lands that the fey are fighting to save. Readers are sure to be drawn to their intelligence, magic, and struggle to survive. There is enough background in this third book in C. L. Wilson's Tairen Soul series that readers new to the series can catch-on to the back-story, but a glossary of terms used would be appropriate.

Maybe my rating isn't fair, but I couldn't get in to this book at all. When I requested it, I didn't realize it was in a series. I hadn't read of the earlier books. I still gave it a shot, but... lavender eyes on a dude? I love the paranormal genre. But this was seriously weak.

"King of Sword and Sky", book three of four, takes you on a magic ride with Rain and Elly. Share their love as Elly is introduced to her past and future. Feel the warmth and fear Elly experiences as she is introduced to a new way of life, her destiny. C.L. Wilson has grown as an author. The development of story and character is amazing. This is one book you'll not be able to put down. 5 stars

The Tairen Soul series is my all-time favorite. It begins as a courtly romance with intrigue and humor, turns into fantasy adventure in Books 3 and 4, and grows into an edge-of-your-seat, world-in-peril, stay-up-all-night EPIC. The back of my copy describes this story as "A Breathtaking Epic Tale of Magic, Passion, and Destiny," and it IS. Words cannot express my love for a series that includes dragons, prophecies, doom, True Love, and also magical kittens.

The legendary struggle between the dark and the light continues... Amazing doesn't even begin to describe this series. "Ve sha kein'tani. Kem'san. Kem'teisa." You are my mate. My heart. My soul. He growled the words against her lips, sending them on Air to her ears, on Spirit to her mind, singing them on their bond threads in the shatteringly vivid tones of tairen song. With hands and words and lips and teeth, he laid claim to her, declaring possession, marking her with his touch, his kiss, his breath, the scent of his skin rubbing hers with hot friction, singing to her soul. KING OF SWORD AND SKY by C.L. Wilson is the third installment in the author's epic romantic fantasy. Amazing doesn't even begin to describe it. I discovered C. L. Wilson's books when I happened to read and fall in love with THE WINTER KING last year. While waiting on the next book in that series to be released, I discovered that she'd previously written the Tairen Soul series, and I have become addicted to it also. I enjoy epic romantic fantasies and, honestly, I consider this collection to be one of the very best in that genre. First of all, this is absolutely a series that must be read in order. I cannot imagine plunging into the series at this point without having read the previous two books. Truly, you would be hopelessly lost. The series is about Fey King Rain, the Tairen Soul, and his shei'dalin and truemate, Ellysetta. The word building, the fantasy world, the romance and the development of the danger plot have evolved from the first book. Please do yourself a favor and read this series from the very beginning. You won't regret it. KING OF SWORD AND SKY picks up right where book two left us. Rain and Ellysetta have wed. Their true bond is not complete; only a few strands of it are in place. The bond must be complete to save her from the dark marks that have been placed on her by the dark High Mage, Vadim Maur, and to save Rain from the bonding madness that will come if their bond is not completed. They must learn to trust one another unconditionally and become as one to complete the bond. Each has a way to go. In this book, we learn much more about the tairen. From the earlier books, we learned that they are declining - their kits are dying before they are hatched - and that the Eye had foreseen Ellysetta as the one person who could save them. She is desperate to do so but has no idea how. The tairen are ferocious winged felines who can breathe fire. They are the source of magic for the Fey and, if they all die, so will the land of Fey. As it is, the magic in the land of the Fey is waning. Steli is the head of the Pride and she's a hoot! I would be remiss if I did not mention that Ellysetta’s true parents, Shannisorran and Elfeya, remain trapped by Vadim Maur and the evil mages of Eld. I shudder every time more of their story is shared. They have endured sadistic torture for a thousand years since they were both captured during the last war. Their love is beautiful and tragic. I absolutely abhor the dark High Mage and his minions and hope they all suffer long, torturous deaths. That would actually be too good of an outcome for them. This book discloses some mind-blowing information about Ellysetta's deceased mother and her two half-sisters. It ends with a cliffhanger but that's not a big deal as the next book is already available - and on my nightstand. The evil mages of Eld are planning their war and Vadim Maur badly wants Ellysetta for his

Rain and Ellysetta have left Celieria, knowing that their enemy is going to attack soon. Ellie is sad to be leaving her family and the only life she has ever known. Ellie knows her destiny is to save the Fey, even though she has no idea how she will be able to do it. Rain, as the Fey King, knows that he must do everything to save his people. When they arrive to the Fading Lands, Rain is determined to show Ellie how to access her magic. Rain begins to show Ellysetta the Fading Lands, the Tairen who accept her, in more ways than they ever excepted his first wife. At first the trust between the Fey and Ellie are shady at best, they don't know what to make of her. They respect her because of her bond to Rain, but they don't trust the dark magic that is stamped on Ellyetta, though she is innocent. When it becomes clear that the kits of the Tairen are dying, Ellie and Rain start working on discovering the reason why. Ellysetta's power starts to become even more pronounced before, and Ellie starts to discover more about herself and her abilities. She desires to refine them, so she will be able to help the Tairen and the Fey. To prove that she only wants to save them from the dark magic that threatens everything they hold dear. King of Sword and Sky is the third installment in the Tairen Soul series. I have heard of this author for years, but not until recently did I decide to try it out. The first two books I just fell in love with instantly. King of Sword and Sky goes alot more into depth, and there is quite a bit that happens in the story. As it begins you see how the difficulty that Ellie has even from first entering the Fading Lands. Even though she has a Dark Mage marker stamped on her, Ellie has more power than anyone knows. With the protection of the Fading Lands, Ellie and Rain start to train and search for a way to save both the Tairen and the Fey. The story is pretty complex in this one, and I don't want to reveal too much for those that haven't had a chance to read this one yet. The plot has many twists and turns that only hold the reader enthralled through the whole story. As you go through the story, you see that the focus is on Ellie, and how she works on refining her abilities so she can save the Kitlings of the Tairen who keep dying. The relationship between Rain and Ellie becomes ever more stronger than ever before. The faith that Rain has in Ellie is precious, and how protective he is of her, despite how his people distrust her. Certain truths are revealed from the eye of Truth, that makes the relationship between Rain and his people even less trustworthy than before. But with a battle up ahead soon, Rain and his people will need to work together to defeat a enemy that only desires to destroy everything. Rain and Ellysetta are charming characters, and I couldn't help but love them even more. The bond they have is strengthened even more in this story than the first two books. There is quite a bit that goes on, that the challenges and the multiple conflicts that Rain and Ellie are faced with only bring them even closer. Rain becomes more Alpha Male pronounced in this book. Way more protective and possessive than you see in previous books. I enjoyed how he handles the situations they are put in. There is quite a bit of intensity at times, and Ellie for the most part, just accepts it. Ellysetta, I enjoyed seeing this heroine face the conflict even more than Rain. She has much more against her at times, and she has this inner strength that I admired from the beginning. She tends to handle everything with grace and patience. Overall I really enjoyed how well everything is put together, and the way the plot proceeds. A exciting and enticing story of a world where good and evil battle. A dazzling and emotionally woven tale of love, destiny, and passion. POWERFUL!!!
