Little Critter and his mom have a day on the town, visiting the museum and the aquarium and the mall, with a quick trip in a fancy restaurant and a real lunch at a hot dog cart. They take the train there and back, with Little Critter crashing into sleep on the way home. I continue to love this series. The text is simple, which means it can keep the attention of my two-year-old as I read to her. Yet even though Mayer keeps the story small and economical, he inserts a lot of humor in his words. For instance, the way Little Critter has to hold his mom's hand so she won't be scared, and his innocent naivete in not understanding why the museum curator doesn't want him holding fragile dinosaur eggs or why the aquarium docent kicks them out because his pet frog jumps in the fish tank. Mayer truly captures a child's perspective in his series. The pictures are a treat, too. Very cute, with lots of details in every illustration that will delight the careful reader. It's fun to keep track of his pet frog's antics. As a new mom, I loved the expressions on his mother's face: tired, exasperated, proud, and always loving. I've had many a trip to the museum or aquarium or restaurants myself - but never in one day, that would be just too much! - so I can appreciate how wonderful yet exhausting such adventures are with your children. This is a sweet story which I plan on reading many more times to all my children.

A testament to the importance of moms.

This is a cute book about a boy and his mom who went shopping, to the museum, a fancy restaurant and on the train. He enjoyed spending time with his mom and was very proud of himself and his adventures at the end of the book. This is a book I would have on my classroom shelf not necessarily a read-aloud book in whole group setting.

this book was about a child and their mom. something ever little kid can relate to. it had good illustrations that the children could look at and add to the story that was being told, a good way for them to use their imagination.

Little Critter and his mom go the big city and have some adventures. What I found most most interesting was that Little Critter's friend, the Frog is in almost every page! This book is perfect to read on Mother's Day, and it's also a good bed-time story any day of the year.

shows the importance of spending time with each child alone. Cute story our 1 year old son enjoys it.

My son has a very good relationship with his mom for which I'm glad. This book tells of many of the things that a son and his mom do when they are together and it is also great, and it is similar to my boy and his mom. A child needs both parents and Mercer Mayer makes that clear, as he also makes clear that a child needs grandparents and friends as well.

I am a nurse that works with preschoolers and reads loads of books before naptime and bedtime. This and other books by this author are read on a daily basis. The stories capture the child's attention and makes them laugh and forget what is going on around them.
