Newcomer Julie Roberts is a soulful southern songstress whose classic, down-home country voice comes with a rather pronounced blues edge and attitude, alternately evoking Allison Moorer and Trisha Yearwood. Given that, producer Brent Rowan steps back and lets Roberts wail and moan in front of a tight little ensemble of musicians who make sure this debut album is honky-tonk friendly in its up-tempo moments and tenderhearted, but not sentimental, in its thoughtful passages. Right off the bat Roberts digs into the gritty country blues of "You Ain't Down Home," drawling her way through an unabashed tribute to the simple life, whereas on the churning "Break Down Here," she employs an affecting world-weariness that makes her sound seasoned beyond her years. A lilting accordion line and insistently strummed acoustic guitar establish a vaguely Irish ambiance on the sweet-natured "Pot of Gold," and Roberts brings it home with a measured, straightforward expression from the soul of a woman luxuriating in being loved. "Wake Up Older," a rare bird in being both a drinkin' song and a breakup song, finds Roberts rousing herself from a whiskey fog and moaning the twist of fate that's cost her both her man and her bottle of Jim Beam, truly a dire predicament worthy of the exclamatory choruses and pounding drums. Most impressive of all is her smart reading of Julie Miller's searing ballad of lost love, "I Can't Get Over You." A weeping pedal steel line arises, the band stays low key, and Roberts simply sings, from the depths of a broken heart, never overplaying her angst into bathos. It's a beautiful performance, one of many on this impressive debut.

I cannot stop playing this CD! It has got to be the best cross between country and blues EVER! I love her phrasing and accent. She is so REAL and vulnerable in her lyrics! The whole CD really flows and doesn't have all the pop country sounding stuff, but instead, charts new waters and reminds us all there's nothing wrong with being an original! Thanks to Mercury for supporting that!

Julie is great! Everyone should own this great Cd Julie has such an amazing voice, and these songs fit so well with her. The songs and her voice compliment each other so much. You would never think this is Julie's first album, for she sounds so matured. Be sure to go out and get this great Cd!

Finally, a country singer that sounds like a country singer. This album is excellent from beginning to end. Julie Roberts is what Nashville has needed for a long time. You can feel the emotion in each song. If good writing is true writing as Hemingway said, then good singing must be true singing. This is good singing.

I've been anticipating Julie's debut CD for months, and it was well worth the wait. She is by far the most talented new artist I've heard in a long time. Her voice is incredible... powerful and unique. It's a great album!

Julie's new album is the best country sound I've heard from a female artist in many years. On this album Julie stays true to country and her pure sound, aided, but not overwhelmed, by the music is something you will want to listen to time and time again. This album will go platinum and beyond very quickly! Julie is a true country artist and will be around for many years to come!

I bought Julie Roberts CD, well basically because there hasnt been much out there lately to buy and I liked Breakdown Here. This CD is the best!! She has such a natural ease to her singing. It has a great sound, all the songs are terrific, its hard to pick just one as a favorite. Only downside is if you looking for a lot of "fast" songs you wont find them here. It is full of mid tempo and ballads. The most uptempo song is No Way Out, which is a great country rocker song. Turn up the radio loud when this one comes on!

Julie Roberts is set to explode onto the country music horizon with the release of her self titled debut album. This cd is jam packed with 11 tracks that cover a variety of emotions and showcase the amazing vocal range of this South Carolina native. For those of you that prefer ballads, try WAKE UP OLDER, about the regrets of past loves gone wrong, or feel the strength of IF YOU HAD CALLED YESTERDAY. If you like to rock, Julie has that base covered too. Enjoy the carefree summer feel of JUST CAUSE WE CAN, or rock along with the rousing NO WAY OUT, which is a cover of the Rodney Crowell hit. Bottom line, give it a listen, there is something for everyone!

I heard the song "If you'd have called yesterday" and she just tore it up...it is a fantastic song! I was surprised when I saw the cd cover and she is so young...she sounds older and wiser than her years! I really enjoy the entire album. "Rain on a tin roof" is another really good song. Sometimes the lyrics are a bit too hillbilly, but the musicianship is wonderful and it was nice to hear Vince Gill add flavor.

I can't say how pleased I am with Julie's album. I, myself, am not a country fan, but bought this album because Julie is from my hometown in Lancaster, SC. I love her sweet, sultry country sound so much I am looking into more female country artists. From the beginning, she was destined to become a star and I am so happy she has come into her own. If you are looking for a natural country singer without the fuss, this is your girl. Please take the time to listen to one of songs and you will be convinced to buy her album.

Julie Roberts has a unique sound of her own. She has amazing talent that she showcases on her debut album. Every track is worth listening too. "Pot of Gold" is a track that I find myself listening to over and over. Of course, the whole album is charming. All the songs are great. Julie Roberts has a voice like no other. She has a style and class all of her own. No doubt that she'll be making noise in Nashville for awhile!

I purchased the new debut CD from the new singer Julie Roberts. Every song on the album is fantastic, and her debut song "Break Down Hear" is great. She has such a strong powerful voice that should keep her in Country Music for years to come. If you are a Country Music fan I would recommend picking up a copy of her CD.

Finally Nashville has found its "Pot of Gold" and its leaving everyone with a smile on their face. Julie Roberts is just what country radio needed. She has a refreshing sound that country has been missing. Her soulfull voice draws you in and the emotional interest its obvious she has in her music will keep you hooked. I just got the CD and sat down to listen to it and it was such a great experience. Julie Roberts takes you on a journey with her songs. You'll smile, laugh, and even shed some tears. I garuntee there will be atleast one song that you can relate to. Its like she speaking to your heart. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. What are you waiting for? Get this CD and enjoy the journey she'll take you on with her songs.

This girl is what country music desperately needs right now, a new voice. The same voices have placed a same same sound in the country music world. Even the shaker-uppers like Shania Twain have kind of settled into a lull. Julie has a whole new voice and some sassy straight-from-the-heart music to liven it up a bit. I love a girl with a good twang in her voice.

It's so nice to finally have a really strong female country singer in the mix. I had gotten away from contemporary country music because it might as well had been pop music. This girl's voice is A-MA-ZING....absolutely phenomenal cd.
