The ivory of the animal known only as the Kilimanjaro Elephant is the object of a galaxy wide search by Duncan Rojas, a researcher, and Bukoba Mandaka, the last Maasai. The epic novel covers all the lives the ivory touches and alters over the next six millennia as Rojas and Mandaka search for it across both the eons and the galaxy, and the purpose of that search is finally unveiled.

Night fell sooner now. The air was dry and wind blew dry chrunchy leaves in the air. The dream was forgotton quickly and Ivory was happy. On that prophecied day, there was a certain unrest in the air. The trees seemed still amd the air was dry . Suddenly as the sun set over their hill a crackling was heard suddenly the trees went up in a blaze and the forest became orange. Heat scoured Ivory. It stung her eyes amd the soot caked her throat. Run. She knew she had to run. But my fellow tribe members! She ran to the kit place. Awful tortured mewls fillled her ears and she grabbed the nearest one in her jaws and ran racing away from the fireryblaze. As she stood in the safety of a brook that only swirled around her ankkes . She saw the slender sillohette of a she carrying kits like a black shadow on a red backround. She looked at the kit she had grabbed. It hung limp in her jaws and sickened Ivorypaw relized that the black she kit was dead. Gnawing regret and grief filled her not only for the dead kit whom she was burying but for her friends Honeypaw and Daisypaw and Fern. And Silver. Did they escape?or where they ash? Ivorypaw wailed as Redfern passed her mind. The old tabby wasnt very fast. And some days she wasnt even sane. The kit was buried now amnd the fire was dead with a shower that misted on her coat. Her ears flattened and her tail drooped as she padded away from the ghostly abandoned smoky camp. Where will I go? She had nw answers as she padded off into the unknown.
