In the midst of feudal Japan, Isabellae Ashiwara, the fiercely independent daughter of a Celtic witch and a samurai master, roams the countryside with her father's ghost at her side, earning her living as a highly-skilled bounty hunter while searching for her long-lost sister, Siuko. Acquiring a misfit crew along the way, Isabellae battles against evil both worldly and supernatural, inching ever closer to discovering the truth of her haunted past and embracing her destiny.

From the brilliant minds of Raule and Gabor, Dark Horse Books is thrilled to present the first volume of Isabellae, collecting the first three French volumes in one compendium and offered in English print-format for the first time.

About the Author

Born in Barcelona in 1971, at the age of 18 Raule won the comics competition in Bellvitge, the city he grew up in. He began drawing at the Joso school, but there he realized that drawing was not for him... He preferred writing. He collaborated with Roger Ibáñez, with whom he formed a winning duo as they worked together for Otaku, the manga magazine published by Norma. They then published Hole'n'Virgin, Amores muertos and Cabos sueltos at Amaníaco before releasing the Jazz Maynard series with Dargaud (2015 Europe Comics). Raule then wrote La conjetura de Poincaré (Diábolo Ediciones) with veteran Josep Mª Saurí. Since his drawing studies, he has never put his pen down, developing a unique writing style over the course of his albums, a result of dipping his quill into the ink of the Barcelona suburbs as well as the film reels of this genre. Currently he is working with Gabor on the adventures of the female samurai Isabellae, published by Le Lombard (2016 Europe Comics).

Gabor was just a boy when he first got into comic books. He's always been a big reader, and has been drawing ever since he started watching cartoons. He soon set his heart on a career in animation, and took classes in development and pre-production. He started working for Studio Tridente Animation in 1996. That's where he met his friend Juan Diaz Canales, with whom he shared his passion for comic books. He ended up working for this studio for 10 years, during which time he was involved in numerous animation projects such as Cédric (Dupuis, Cinebook in English) Agrippine (Claire Bretécher/Dargaud, Agrippina Europe Comics 2016), and Papyrus (Dupuis, Cinebook in English), as well as on films such as Bécassine, Le Cid and even Asterix and the Vikings. He later published Greenworld with François Debois at Soleil, then Les Patriciens with Juan Diaz Canales at Glénat.
