A wonderfully woven mystery. Looking forward to more Mike Hammer tales.

Ok, I'm not a fan of mysteries. But Spillane died last month, so I thought I'd give his stuff a chance, and I thought I'd try it with his first novel. Its hard to judge it because there is so much that is spoofed or an homage. Its easy to poke fun at the slang terms, "rod, mitts, hot squat, more curves than a mountian highway" but that this is the source for like an entire subgenre of fiction (no I'm not forgetting Dashiel Hammond or Raymond Chandler), didn't make it quite so campy. The mystery held true to the rule of gumshoe mysteries that I learned watching bogey movies...if there's a beautiful woman, and she's interested in you, shoot her first. It is a very easy read, I read it in two sittings. And while part of me wants to mock it, it was surprisingly enjoyable. I doubt I'll ever read another of his, but I feel that I can mark off a literary checky box

Read this in high school years ago, saw it on a list, ordered and read it, and still loved it. Still the best of the tough guy dicks!

Dissapointing. Suspected the killer's identity half way through the book. I was right.

Better than the aftertaste of a single malt whisky. "I The Jury" gives the reader the desire to turn every page of a story that unwraps macho like a Christmas present. It kicks but and makes sissys cower back to mama. Give it a read. It will grow hair on your chest.

Interesting to read "how things were" back then, when Spillane invented Mike Hammer. Writing is crisp and leads to a good ending.
