Sam, a newspaperman, his fiance Missy and his twelve year old son, Henry, move into The Hathaway, an old Mississippi plantation that saw horrible events in its history from the Civil War to a horrendous lynching in the 1920s. Their moving in sets in motion an ancient pattern of revenge administered straight from Hell. When they meet Matilda, a beautiful black folklore professor, they reluctantly learn of the Hathaway Legend and are drawn into a psycho-sexual whirlwind. Matilda's secret academic research, the Hypnogogue Project, reveals a legend known only to local blacks that proves terrifyingly true. The three are thrown into pitched battle with an evil demon bent on destroying not only them, but the world.
