Homesteading Through the Winter
Activities to Stay Productive in Colder Months
Welcome to Homesteading Through the Winter: Activities to Stay Productive in Colder Months, a D.I.Y. book that is specifically interested in keeping you busy throughout the cold winter months when everyone would rather sip on a nice cup of hot cocoa. This book is specifically to prepare you for some of the hard times ahead of you and give you a few things to do to keep you homesteading.
In the first chapter, we'll talk about livestock and we'll be covering such details as:
- What to expect out of your food animals as you pass into the colder months
- What you need to look out for when the weather gets incredibly cold
- How to maintain the production of eggs during these months for those chicken raisers
In the second chapter, we'll be going over what you can do about your garden because just because the weather is colder, and your regular crops are gone doesn't mean that you have to stop growing. This area will cover the top five commonly grown winter plants and what's needed to grow them. We will also be going over how you can construct an in-house garden so that you can continue to grow the plants you want in the conditions you don't want. The third chapter will go over how to maintain and protect your power grid if you have built one. This will include how to secure wires, cheap and effective ways of protecting wire ports, and how to efficiently judge how to compensate for the loss of power in your system along with suggestions on how to optimize your investment into a bigger grid.
In the last chapter, we'll be going over HAM radios and cover such topics as:
- What the different licenses are and the true differences between them
- What you should buy for your first HAM radio
- Why you might want to pursue high forms of HAM radio
As you can see, we cover a lot in this book to make sure you have plenty to do during those colder months.
