"An exceptional romance! I truly fell in love with the characters who were so lifelike." —Reader review

A future with him means facing her biggest fear.

Firefighter Evan Drake overcame a challenging childhood to build a life he loves. He's got a rewarding career, loads of friends, and more than his share of female attention. He couldn't ask for anything more. Then heiress Selena waltzes into his world.

Selena Jarboe grew up lacking for nothing. Money can't buy what she aches for the most though—a stable, secure family. When family discord becomes too much, she trades her privileged existence for peace a thousand miles away. With courage, she pursues a new life—and a night with a sexy stranger.

Selena can't regret her time with Evan...and then she learns it has a major consequence. Her future uncertain, she's sure of only one thing—Evan is the last man who could offer her security. Evan has experience fighting for what he wants, but will it be enough to win over Selena forever?

Selena left her privileged life determined to make it on her own without her family and their money. She had to find a job but she had never worked a day in her life so had no experience. What could she do? She'd worry about that tomorrow. Today she was going to do something else she had never done before. Pick up a one-night-stand. She spent the night with Evan and it was incredible. She thought she would never see him again but her life had not been working out the way she expected. Have you ever read a book where you did not care for one of the main characters? It is rare for me as I usually start liking them at some point but this woman ... nope. She was so afraid of losing someone that she didn't want anyone she cared about to have a dangerous job. Because of this, she wouldn't let herself love anybody who had a job she considered dangerous. I just wanted to shake her. Evan opened his heart for her and she wouldn't accept him because he was a firefighter. I should note that because of her I considered DNF'ing this book. Overall I am wholeheartedly team Evan. I love it when a player finds "the one". 3.5 stars

We go back to San Amaro Island, TX and the brave firefighters living there. This time, it’s Evan Drake’s story. Evan is full of life, and dedicated to his work. His upbringing was tough, but that has helped him be the man that he’s today. Selena Jarboe had a privilege upbringing, but leaves her home fed up with that life, and what she feels is her Mother’s distance and a brother not willing to give up his life in the military. When she meets a stranger/Evan, at a beach bar, she decides to have a one night stand, something she’s never done before. Little did she know there would be consequences to that night. I have to confess that as much as I liked Evan, it took 50% of the book before I started tolerating Selena. For me, that took away from the story. But at the same time, proved that the author was talented enough to emit in me those feelings. It’s also a story about family dynamics and how our childhood experiences and perceptions , do mold our adult lives. Another engaging and well developed story by Ms Knupp. I was gifted this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

4 stars I purchased Heat of the Night book 2 in the Island Fire series by Amy Knupp and this review is given freely. Playboy firefighter Evan has met his match when east coast socialite Selena comes to town looking for a man to help her forget her family and money troubles. Unfortunately, one night of passion only causes Selena's life to become more complicated. This is a complex story of avoidance, duty, acceptance and love. The heckelling and the support given Evan by Uncle Gus and the rest of the firefighters is both heartwarming and hilarious. I could identify with the dilemma of embracing the time you have with your loved ones vs secluding oneself to avoid the potential of pain. The beginning is a little stiff but the remainder of the book is action packed and full of emotions culminating in both a surprise and a happy ending.
