A young boy spends his tenth summer on his aunt and uncle’s farm, where he is constantly involved in crazy escapades with his cousin Harris. “On the Larson farm, readers will experience hearts as large as farmers’ appetites, humor as broad as the country landscape and adventures as wild as boyhood imaginations. All this adds up to a hearty helping of old-fashioned, rip-roaring entertainment.”--Publishers Weekly

A Book That You Should Read This book “Harris and me” is about a boy who has a family that is always drunk. So he has lived with a whole bunch of different family members. So he moves to the Larson’s. They take him in under their wing and start to raise him as his own. There he meets his new best/worst friend Harris. Harris is always getting into trouble but the do it in a fun way. The Larson family truly are the definition of a “hick”. They live on a big farm There you will meet Louie an old man with a bad attitude that works there and eats a lot. All together there are 7 people in that little house. They all work hard and do as there asked except Harris he is kind of a rebel and gets smacked a lot for foul language. But he never learns his lesson. There are a lot of animals on the settlement including a lynx that Louie sound as a baby and keeps to get rid of mice. Clair is his second aunt and cook’s food and is very nice. Knute is his uncle and he is a very strong quiet man. Harris is a young very rebelish child and doesn’t follow the rules. There is also glennis who also cooks and smacks Harris around when he’s bad but overall is nice. The story ends on a good note and they all become a very happy family. Over all this is a good book and I really like how it is going If you like stories about older generations then you will love this book read it!

I loved this book. My son who is in 8th grade read it and loved it. Would recomment it to Jr. High children. May not be a good book for elementary children.

I read this book in the spring of every year I taught sixth grade, to the total delight of my kids. It is funny, yet poignant, and gives a good picture of life in the Midwest shortly after WW II. Both girls and boys found the adventures incredibly amusing, and couldn't wait for each new chapter. I just bought a new copy to have for my grandchildren.

The plot of Harris and Me was attention grabbing right from the beginning when Me came to live with the Larsons. The characters were believable and lovable, even with their quirks like foul language. Mr. Paulsen does a fine job of creating a believable setting that I could visualize. I could even smell the farm smells that he described in this present day novel. The theme of the text is strong throughout teaching us that family will stick by us even in the most trying times.

I received my initial copy as a gift and have subsequently bought it and gifted it to everyone I know who can use a laugh. It the reader has any imagination at all, she/he can close their eyes and be transported to a different time and place and live each hilarious moment with Harris.

This is one of my favorites. Paulsen's masterful means of storytelling resonated throughout the entire work. How anyone could dislike this hysterically humorous conglomeration of events at the house of Harris (particularly the urination on the electric fence) is truly the best of Gary Paulsen. A classic it the greatest form.

I read this book this year in 7th grade. I loved the hilarious Harris, especially the part where he rides the motorized bike and loses his 'bibs.' The only thing I didn't like was the ending. I wished the narrator had gotten to stay with the Larsons. I also wished that the narrator had gotten a name. All in all, I loved the book. I really wish there was a sequel.

Mr. Paulsen has created an environment to which most of the students in my fourth grade class really wish to visit. I normally start the year off with this book (I have the skill of editing down to an art form). I have taught now for 9 years and this is the book that every class remembers most. They become transported into the story, becoming Harris' relatives themselves. My students (boys and girls) and I love the true expressiveness of Paulsen's writing. Not too many books make me crack-up as I read them aloud to my students. This one does. I laugh at the writing and I laugh with my students. I was given a gift card to Barnes and Noble Bookstore for my birthday, and I am finally adding this classroom and personal favorite to my bookshelves. Read it- you won't be disappointed!

Harris and Me is a story of Gary Paulsen as a young boy. Me, as he is known throughout the book, is driven to his cousin Harris' family ranch. Harris Larson a lively nine year old boy who has no front teeth, is sunburnt, and is the most creative kid you will ever know. Throughout the book, Harris talks 'Me' into doing just about whatever he wants, whether it's: playing war with 'commie japs', mocking Gene Autry, or swinging from the barn loft, you name it, Harris will do it. A longtime rivalry with the ranch ruffian-rooster Ernie always seemed to keep Harris on his toes. So come on down to the old Larson Place, drive into town, drink some Nesbitt's Orange Pop, or watch the Gene Autry film strip. Either way, you're bound to have SOME fun.

It is about a boy that moves to live with his cousen because his mom and dads drinking problem. When he moves in with his cousen it is way different because of their hillbilly ways of life. this book has some realy funny points and some sad parts it was a good book all round because of what they do like when Harris and the boy were playing war with the cows saying they were comey Japs and they had to go wash off in the creek. My favorite part is when they were wrestling with the rooster Ernie.

Harris and Me. By: Gary Pulsen If you like funny and gross books you should read this book.when Harris gets chased by the rooster is one of the funny parts. Aslo when Harris sticks a straw up a frogs rear thats one of the gross parts. I recommend this book to any one over the age of 10.

This book is about a young boy who goes to a distant family's farm because his parents are alcoholics. This book is the funniest book ever. The young boy is in a totally different ball game when he moves from the country to the city, and he learns it the hard way. When you read this book you will find some things you proably have never done before like sticking a straw up a frogs rear and blowing so it won't get away. If anyone is looking for a great laugh this is the book for you.
