Overview

After identifying her employer's dangerous enemies, Jessica Jakes takes refuge at the compound of the Raven Riders Motorcycle Club. Fellow Hard Ink tattooist and Raven leader Ike Young promises to keep Jess safe for as long as it takes, which would be perfect if his close, personal, round-the-clock protection didn't make it so hard to hide just how much she wants him--and always has.

Ike Young loved and lost a woman in trouble once before. The last thing he needs is alone time with the sexiest and feistiest woman he's ever known, one he's purposely kept at a distance for years. Now, Ike's not sure he can keep his hands or his heart to himself--or that he even wants to anymore. And that means he has to do whatever it takes to hold on to Jess forever.

4 1/2 STARS! My first Laura Kaye book will definitely not be my last! I was wanting to start her Raven Rider MC series, so I grabbed this prequel/crossover that kicked it all off. I haven't read the Hard Ink series, but I didn't find it hard to pick this one up and enjoy it at all ... easy to follow, described enough from that series to follow along without a problem. I really enjoyed tough guy Ike ... especially the tender center that Jess brings out. They both carry a lot of guilt for previous times in their life, but to move forward, they find themselves able to let go of enough to let each other in. Loved their story and look forward to getting to know more of the MC guys soon! Jessica Jakes finds herself in a boatload of trouble when she accidentally gets mixed up with a dangerous group that is targeting her employers. She needs to get out of her house ... and fast! Ike Young is there the minute Jess calls him for help. He can't stand to see her so afraid and vows to keep her safe. He takes her back to the Raven Rider's compound to lie low until the Hard Ink guys can catch the men that are after them and it's safe for her to go home again. Ike likes Jess a lot ... which is exactly why he's kept his distance from her. The attraction between them is explosive .. and it doesn't take long for their solitary time together to cause it to detonate!

Ike Young is a tattoo artist and Raven Riders MC member. Ike has always been attracted to Jessica "Jess" Jakes. He would love to give his heart and hands to Jess but a tragedy left him scarred and broken unwilling to take a risk on Jess. Jess Jakes reached out to Ike Young while hiding from the bad guys. Ike has a few simple rules for Jess to follow while she's staying at his house and she agrees to them. However when a cry for help sends Jess running to the source of cry. She realizes that she's broken every single rule Ike had for her. Will Ike given to his attraction to Jess? Can Jess make Ike see the past as it truly is? Your answers await you in Hard as Steel. I love this series! Getting to know Ike and Jess was a true joy for me. I've been a fan of this series since the beginning and it keeps just getting better and better. The characters and story are compelling, raw, gritty, intriguing, and real. I look forward to reading Hard Ever After soon!

Reviewed by Angela and posted at Under The Covers Book Blog Hard As Steel is a novella from the Hard Ink series, also the introduction to the spin off series, Raven Riders which I’m very excited about. Jessica and Ike are tattoo artists over at Hard Ink and has been good friends along with Nick and Jeremy, owners of the shop. But this shop is more than meets the eye. Hard Ink is also an independent group of special forces who has vowed to correct wrongs from their past. Along the way, saving people and preventing crimes. When Jessica is caught in the crossfires and threatened, Ike whisks her away for safekeeping while Hard Ink takes care of business. Ike is also a member of Raven Riders Motorcycle Club which makes him more than capable of protecting her. While in hiding, we get a good introduction of the Ravens world. Of course, Jess and Ike will spend time together finally acting out on their true feelings for the each other. Jessica and Ike are two very intense individuals with pasts and experiences that had damaged them emotionally. I love the pairing Ms. Kaye had done here. I believe them perfect for each other. Not only that they match their personality, and interests, but they match each other’s’ intense attraction to the other. These two very hot together. I’ve read Ride Hard, book one for Raven Riders and I don’t believe you need to read this book to understand what’s going on, though it’s enjoyed reading Ike and Jess’ story. Ms. Kaye made this a fun and steamy read.

This was a great crossover novella between the author's Hard Ink series and her upcoming Raven Riders MC series. We know a bit about Ike and Jessica and the circumstances that lead them to Ike's home near the Raven Riders compound from the previous book, Hard To Let Go. While this can be read on it's own, I'd suggest at least reading that book first as incidents in it show up in this novella. Honestly, you can't go wrong reading the entire Hard Ink series since it's amazing!
