Did you know that a great white shark can swim up to 25 mph (40 kph) as it chases down prey? Then it leaps from the water, snatching the animal in its jaws and finishing it off with a tearing bite. Read this book to learn more about these apex predators that, sadly, are at risk of disappearing from our planet.

Given my love animals and nature, I was excited to dive into this book. I was not disappointed. Part of a series of nonfiction books which explore animals that "are at risk and disappearing from our planet," it contains a wealth of information on great white sharks (a few other sharks) and their habitat. As well as the human and environmental dangers they face. The stunning photographs, along with the easily accessible text and underlying humor, made it fun and interesting to read. It would make a great addition to any nature or conservation curriculum , as well as any library. Currently, there are eight books in this series, written for ages 8-12 (grades 3-5).
