This official prequel to the Extinction Cycle series is the story of Lieutenant Brett who is introduced in the prequel of book 1, Extinction Horizon.

For a dozen years, villagers along the ancient Da River in Vietnam have feared a nightmarish creature who hunts and consumes human flesh. Only in whispers do they mention its name, The White Ghost. The ghost is what is left of Marine Lieutenant Trevor Brett, a chemically engineered experiment gone wrong. Now, as he stalks the jungle for prey, the men who made him into the monster he has become are hunting him. His end was just the beginning.

About the Author

Nicholas Sansbury Smith is the USA Today bestselling author of the Hell Divers series, the Orbs series, the Trackers series, and the Extinction Cycle series. He worked for Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management in disaster mitigation before switching careers to focus on his one true passion-writing. When he isn't writing or daydreaming about the apocalypse, he enjoys running, biking, spending time with his family, and traveling the world. He is an Ironman triathlete and lives in Iowa with his wife, their dogs, and a house full of books.

Tom Abrahams is a veteran television journalist and author who has spent the last twenty-plus years telling the biggest stories of our time. He has reported from the East Room of the White House and Capitol Hill, interviewed presidents and presidential candidates, and was at the Pentagon while smoke still rose in the hours after 9/11. He writes post-apocalyptic thrillers, action adventure, and political conspiracies.

Bronson Pinchot, an Audie Award-winning narrator and Audible's Narrator of the Year for 2010, received his education at Yale University, which filled out what he had already received at his mother's knee in the all-important areas of Shakespeare, Greek art and architecture, and the Italian Renaissance. He restores Greek Revival buildings and appears in television, film, and on stage whenever the pilasters and entablatures overwhelm him.

This is an incredible beginning story of the Extinction series. I love that we get to know more about certain characters (No spoilers!) This is an expanded edition of the previous "kindle world" book and the co-authoring between Nicholas Sansbury Smith and Tom Abrahams is phenomenal. Bronson Pinchot is one of my favorite narrators also. I mean this combination is just perfect! If you've read (or listened) to any of the other extinction cycle books you MUST get this one too. Even if you haven't, this is the perfect entrance into the whole series.
