Overview
There's no doubting Diana Ross's platinum-packing power, but on this comeback' release she opts for a more up-to-date, low key approach. With the help of a handful of producers, most notably, Malik Pendleton, she has crafted a record that promises to lie next to today's languid soul, but ends up sounding more at home on adult contemporary radio with Celine Dion and co. In fact, the intro to "Until we Meet Again" is eerily reminiscent of Dion's "My Heart Will Go On," without the over-the-top theatrics that follow. There are splashes of tribal rhythms and motivational mantras ("He Lives in You") -- as well as a couple of Cher-like dance remixes tacked on at the end -- but it is when Ross sticks to what she does best, straight ahead soul ballads, that she shines as the original diva.
