Olivia Bennett is not having a happy birthday. Instead of blowing out her twenty-nine candles, she's stuck in jail, caught red-handed in a graffiti incident that (perhaps) involved one too many strawberry margaritas. Worst idea ever. The only bright side is that she ended up in the strong arms of the most gorgeous lawman she's ever seen.

Pete Sampson (aka Deputy Hot Stuff) faces intense pressure from the sheriff to find out who's behind a string of vandalisms. And after her spray-painting spree, Olivia is suspect number one. Still, Pete can't stop thinking about her. Wanting her. Now he's torn between his duty and his overpowering desire for the vivacious waitress. But he may have to bend the rules because true love is more important than the letter of the law . . .

About the Author

Rachel Lacey is a contemporary romance author and semi-reformed travel junkie. She's been climbed by a monkey on a mountain in Japan, gone scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef, and camped out overnight in New York City for a chance to be an extra in a movie. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Endearing Romance! I loved the characters!! I loved the animals!! This story was so much fun! We meet Olivia Bennett on her 29th Birthday. After her night out celebrating, she is caught red-handed spray-painting the side of the building of a local chicken farm…sending a message about their mistreatment of animals. She is an Animal Activist on a mission! She is arrested, and spends the night in jail. Deputy Pete Sampson was the arresting officer, and he is very handsome. They crush on each other right away…their chemistry was electric. This is the story of their romance. I cannot tell you more, as you will enjoy the story more with this tid-bit of information. This is the beginning of a wonderful adventure between Olivia and Pete. Olivia’s passion for animals and their humane treatment is awe-inspiring. She is a force to be reckoned with…and, Pete knows this…yet, he cannot stop thinking about her. Olivia thinks of him often, too. Olivia was so sassy, with Pete being more reserved. I think this is what made them great for one another. This story is told so well, with both their love for one another blossoming and their love of animals being front and center. They are both in a place where they are figuring out their next step in life. Pete rescues a dog….Olivia rescues a cat….Can they rescue one another??

Book 3 was great it had lovable characters, the cutest kitten and great dogs. It was a warm story that melts your heart, laughter and will keep you up baking. I love that she brought back Cara, Merry and their hot stuffs making an appearance. Olivia and Pete were great and loved how they met and their version of camping. Rachel Lacey has become one of my favorite authors and I can't wait for her next book/book series.

DNF This is my first time reading a book by the author. I thought the book started off slow. I wasn't too hooked on Olivia. I admired that she was an animal rights activist but that was it. I didn't like her. Pete's character was a little flat and I didn't like him too much either. I stuck with the story, thinking that the characters might make a change and surprise me when something happened that made me close the book on EVER AFTER. Without trying to give too much away, there was an animal cruelty scene that just absolutely broke my heart. Granted, it was a short scene, but powerful enough for me to stop reading. I may try this author again, but I won't be finishing this book because I'd rather not encounter more scenes like that no matter how long, or short, they might be. ***I was gifted a paperback ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***

3.5 Stars Reviewed by Francesca and posted at Under The Covers Book Blog EVER AFTER is a cute small town romance with just a bit of corruption and chocked full of cute cuddly animals that I found very sweet to read.” ~ Under the Covers This is the second book I read by this author (and in this series) and I keep coming back to it because of the big focus on animals. I’m a sucker for a cute puppy! In this installment, the heroine Olivia is a bit of an activist against animal cruelty. In her case, it’s more about the treatment of chickens at the local plant. One night of drinking and one bright idea to graffiti said plant and she ends up spending the night in jail. Taken there by hunky police officer, Pete Samson. I love the complete opposites of Pete and Olivia’s personalities! He’s a by-the-book police officer, who is bottling up inside a lot of guilt about something in his past. She’s a free spirit. Her big shot lawyer father expected her to go to law school and follow in his footsteps but she’s more concerned with following her true passion. She loves animals, wants to fight to protect them. A vegetarian who likes to meditate in the early mornings at the park. Now how does that mix with straight laced Pete? I absolutely adored them together! Olivia is pretty mature, which I always enjoy. She has come to a crossroads in her life where she has to decide whether she continues following her dreams or she “grows up” and follows the path her parents expect her to. She has a good head on her shoulders, even when she’s taking risks to stand up for her ideals. Pete on the other hand is the one that doesn’t show you much about himself. Add in to that the fact that he shouldn’t be dating someone he arrested unless he wants to compromise his job, and he’s got a lot of turmoil to deal with. All while trying to keep her safe. EVER AFTER is a cute small town romance with just a bit of corruption and chocked full of cute cuddly animals that I found very sweet to read. I will be looking for more in either this series or by the same author.
