Having announced that they're planning to take a break to work on outside projects, Matchbox Twenty proffer this disc as a thank-you of sorts to fans -- and as a window into the band's working process. Most of the tunes on the EP are revamped renditions of Matchbox hits; there's a powerful live version of "Push" (taken from the band's appearance on Hard Rock Live) and a pared-down in-concert take on "If You're Gone," which emphasizes Kyle Cook's sharp guitar work. Frontman Rob Thomas's solo version of More than You Think You Are's first single, "Disease," replaces that song's driving pulse with a poignant acoustic intimacy, while "Crutch" reverses that dynamic, adding extra layers to the original's spare tone. The disc also contains a visual component with five additional live songs -- culled from a club date staged in early 2003 -- and band interviews conducted at the show. There's nothing terribly fancy going on here (which has never been the point with Matchbox Twenty anyway), but it's a nice way for the band to close the first chapter in its saga.
