Overview

More than 25 years have passed since Lynyrd Skynyrd sauntered out of the Southland, bent on showing the rest of the world exactly how hell-raisin' was done. Along the way, the band has endured its share of loss and learned its share of lessons -- but like a good bottle of whiskey, its sound has aged remarkably well. EDGE OF FOREVER proves Skynyrd's kick is still potent enough to warm your innards long after the last notes have wafted through the air. Thanks in large part to the stinging guitar interplay between the band's newest members, Hughie Thomasson and Rickey Medlocke, songs like "Workin' " and "Mean Streets" give off the sort of down-home street smarts that characterized classics like "Sweet Home Alabama." Likewise, the gravelly-yet-melodic vocals of singer Johnny Van Zant -- not to mention his roots-conscious lyrics -- bring back plenty of memories, particularly on the home-state romp "Fla."
