In this memoir of a World War II childhood, Paulsen paints a haunting self-portrait of a young boy drawn helplessly into the physical and emotional violence of the adult world. “An indelible account...hallmarked by Paulsen’s sinewy writing” (Kirkus Reviews).

I read this book in about 1 week and thoroughly enjoyed it! It was one of the best books I've ever read. I recommended it to everyone! Historical, Suspensful, Dramatic, and lots of Action!!! Altogether - GREAT!
This book is a great!! I recommend it to everyone I know. I would not suggest this book for a child because, it has some in depth sexual parts and alot of curse words. Besides that, this is a wonderful book.
