Loosely based on a real-life operation during World War II, this action-adventure from director John Woo stars Nicolas Cage as Joe Enders, a Marine traumatized by the loss of his entire platoon in the Solomon Islands during an ambush he believes was deadlier than necessary due to his indecision. Suffering from eardrum damage in Hawaii, Joe manages to be declared fit for duty once again thanks to a sympathetic nurse (Frances O'Connor), but his new assignment isn't what he expects. Joe is ordered to safeguard a Navajo soldier named Ben Yahzee (Adam Beach) because the military has developed a new secret code based on the near-dead Navajo language that is proving unbreakable to the Japanese. Any soldier that speaks Navajo is an immediate asset, including Ben and his pal, Charlie Whitehorse (Roger Willie). Joe's orders are to "baby sit" Ben during the invasion of Saipan, protecting him if possible, but -- if the code-talker's capture becomes imminent -- to kill him before he falls into enemy hands. Meanwhile, Charlie is to be guarded by affable harmonica player Ox Henderson (Christian Slater). Joe reluctantly accepts this new duty as a way to get back into the war, and in the ensuing carnage, his nearly suicidal acts of bravery make him a hero while Ben becomes paralyzed by fear. Determined to live up to Joe's example, Ben musters up his courage, even in the face of racism from a fellow soldier (Noah Emmerich), and ends up rescuing his own protector behind enemy lines by briefly posing as a Japanese soldier. Despite their growing mutual respect, Joe is eventually forced to take an action that threatens to shatter his bond with Ben, as the war's tragic losses strike closer to home for both men. Windtalkers co-stars Peter Stormare, Jason Isaacs, and Mark Ruffalo.

This movie was amazing! It really shows the hard times people went through during the war and the dangers they faced. It shows how brothers in arms can overcome differences in these situations, and example is Whitehorse and Chick. Oh and to the person below, it did talk about the native's culture, an example for this was at the end during the ceremony, or when Ben and Chick were talking about natives and settlers fighting. And to all who say it was overdone and cheesy, guess again! Try talking to people who have been there and also seen the movie, they say that's what its like, so you may want to do some research.

Movie really has little to do with advertised plot line of Navaho Code Talkers, but centers around Nicholas Cage as troubled veteran. After watching realistic ''Saving Private Ryan, battle scenes in this movie look more comparable to an Arnold Schwarzenegger flick - everyone dies with one shot or in a flamey explosion. Some good cinematography, but plot is thin and military veterans will find it wanting.

This movie was great. Finally, a new-age war movie about the Marines in the Pacific and the story behind the Navajo code talkers. I enjoyed every minute of it.

This was an amazing war movie with amazing effects and it kept me gripping my seat till the end. Nicholas Cage did a great job for this movie. I really like the story too. John Woo is a very talanted director. I would give this best picture except it was made in the year that The Two Towers and The Pianist came out which were my top 2 fovorites for the year. Still this was a very good war movie. Two Thumbs Up!

I didn't like this movie because of how they overdid it. Lots of mistakes were made. like the grenades. grenades don't carry those huge explosoin flames that would take out a whole house. and they rapidly changed the explosion of the grenades. and they rarely reloaded, which really made me mad.lets get to the landmines, I thought they exploded if you release your weight off them. but then again this I might be wrong with because I really don't know much about landmines. and the scene where a man fell on the landmine, wouldn't that blow him to shreds or peices? but instead he flew into the air without a scratch. and the part where the marine tried carrying the little girl, he didn't do anything but stand up and look around while he was being shot at, you might think he was in a panic postion but he's had experience. but as much errors that this film had it managed to entertain me quite some bit. so I would recommend it if you've got nothing better to watch. so overall it is overdone with cheesey effects, but still manages to bring good action and entertainment to you.

I enjoyed this film. Nicolas Cage is a wonderful actor and does a great job with this script. I wouldn't watch it over and over but it was a good evening's entertainment with an interesting story line.

Adam is great in this story about unsung heros of WWII.

Film was way overblown and amounted to false advertising when you get down to it. I didn't see much of anything to do with the Native American code talkers, whose heritage was supposed to be explored in this film not the exploits of egomaniac Nichlas Cage, who is a terrible actor anyway. The war scenes was a mess also, nothing was good period.
