Stephen Sommers' summer movie extravaganza Van Helsing comes to DVD in this widescreen edition thanks to Universal Studios (the lesser-recommended full-screen edition is also available). Packed to the gills with extras, this disc presents the film in an anamorphic 1.85:1 widescreen picture with both 5.1 and 2.0 tracks for your home theater to sink its teeth into. The multitude of extras includes an interactive tour of Dracula's castle, where the viewer is given the option to listen to Dracula (Richard Roxburgh) ramble on about the different sections of his homely abode. Other features include a ten-minute "Bringing the Monsters to Life" making-of that introduces the audience to the master effects technicians who brought the film's many pixels to life, while "You Are in the Movie" presents a look behind the scenes by an unprecedented amount of hidden cameras on the set. A blooper reel has also been included, as has a ten-minute "Legend of Van Helsing" special that delves into the character's lore from books to the big screen. Two commentaries are available for your listening enjoyment -- the first with director Stephen Sommers and producer/editor Bob Ducsay, and the second featuring actors Richard Roxburgh, Shuler Hensley, and Will Kemp. Finally, a playable version of the Van Helsing game can be accessed through an Xbox game console that allows you to play through the first exciting level of the game. If you're a pushover for Sommers' brand of over-the-top adventure antics, then this disc is for you. This movie is also available in the three-disc Ultimate Collector's Edition featuring an additional feature-packed disc along with another DVD that includes Universal's original Dracula, Frankenstein, and Wolf Man movies, which inspired Van Helsing.

I went to see this movie not expecting much, but I still found myself cringing throughout. Sommers takes excellent raw materials (cool source material, excellent cinematagraphy, a huge budget, and three terrific actors in the lead roles and failed to devilver a viewable product. The plot is trite with many gimmicks, and many of the elements meant to pay "tribute" to the classic Universal horror films come off as more mocking in tone then anyything else. This is one of those sad cases where a good movie is burried by a ham-fisted production team. This may entertain those in the 8-12 crowd but mature vieweres will feel insulted by the baseness of this film.

I LOVE this movie. It is a action, have-you-at-the-edge-of-your-seat adventure film! Congrats Stephen Sommers!!!!!!

I liked the movie and was somewhat impressed with it, although the previews show most of the really cool stuff. Terrific actors and good special effects. Sadly, it wasn't quite what it was cracked up to be.

Imagine: three of hollywood's greatest horror characters all thrown into one amazing movie. 'Van Helsing' features the wolfman, Frankenstien's monster and Dracula. The main character, Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) travels to Transyvania for his ultimate assignment yet; to take out the infamous Dracula who has been terroizing towns people for ages along with his three beautiful and deadly brides. Helsing is also on a personal quest, to discover his past. Along the way he meets Anna an independant, strong woman who is also trying to bring Dracula to an end after he killed her family. The catch: Dracula can't be killed. And he has a horrific plan; to bring to life hundreds of years worth of baby vampires. Now, with many complecations, Helsing and Anna team up with Frankenstien and try to bring an end to Dracula. Many people may think that with so many famous monsters, it is just a horrible plot but acctually the plot all works out wonderfully. Every aspect of this movie is nice. The soundtrack is excellent, the special effects are first-class, there is something for everybody from the ultamite wolfman-dracula clash down to the love story between Helsing and Anna to the homor installed by the monk. This is a great movie and will have you sitting on the edge of your seat the entire time!

Fantastic Cast and the storyline was awesome, it filled my every expectation that the previews built you up for! Special effects were too cool! We sat on the edge of our seats through the whole movie. I think it's great that you can have an action/horror film without all that slice 'em up gore that some people think has to be in a movie to make it worthwhile. Great job cast and crew!!! Looking forward to the sequels!

This movie is so cool!!!! I love it!!!!!

What can I say, its not the cinematic landmark that all films will be measured against but it definately satisfies a night of vegging out with a large coke and bowl of popcorn. The plot is simple, in fact you'll figure out the obvious twist in the movie before it has a chance to shock you. Still its filled with action, and humor. If you're looking for in depth story watch something else like "Gattica" otherwise this is as entertaining as reading a classic comic book from the 60s.

I loved this movie! It was so exciting that I can't wait to see it again. Hugh jackman was also really hott in this movie!

I loved this film by the same director that made The Mummy and its sequel The Mummy Returns. He includes from the very begining Dr.Jekyl and Mr.Hyde and as the film rolls on the caste of ghouls includes Dracula, The Wolf Man, Frankenstein, and the 3 Brides of Dracula. For fans of horror this is awesome to see the classic creatures of literature and cinema brought to life and fully reimagined. Id recommend getting this special edition and the two special edition Mummy films.

I didn't know that CGIs were actors who could work with other films! The same shape and voice that did DAX from Star Wars II is Mr. Hyde in Van Helsing!? P-U suh!! I didn't have any issue with the effects but it should have had more blood and been a rated R film. I can't stand these horror/action films giving in the core group of critics to tone down the violence so you can get into a larger audience. it could have been more than what it was.

My headline about sums it up... this movie is entertaining at times but delves much to far into the world of 'camp' for my taste. A typical Stephen Sommers movie that counts on computer graphics way too much and ends up on the cheesy side of things because of it. Still fun at times but 5 stars? Get real! This film would have benefited greatly by being more serious and dark... still... not a bad rental... just don't expect too much.

Kate Beckinsale is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooo beautiful, and this has probably been her best performance. This movie is also a lot better than the Mummy and the Mummy Returns, I think that it is horrible that it didn't do so well in the box office, it diserved a lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot more, so did POTC,(wich I think is the best. This movie and Potc do have a lot in comen though: best directing, best score, best all around this summer.

A mess thrown up on screen. The violence is incredible, maimings, burnings, numerous shootings. All there is is a overwelming amounth of explosions and CGI monsters fighting each other, interposed with awful dialogue and turgid romance. Jackson has his charisma sucked right out of him by the millions of dollars of special effects whirling around him. The director continously insults the intelligence of the viewer, dumbing down everything in sight. Realism on even the most rudimentary level is sacrificed. A 'dead' lost. MediaMale

i love vampires, werewolves and anything supernatural. plus loved hugh jackman after x-men and kate beckingsale in underworld. after watching van helsing i thought it was an okay but not great great kind of movie. i'll admit there were some moments that seriously could of been done a bit better like the story and tone down the cgi. anyway this is one of those movies that you can watch on tv and enjoy for what it is. same goes for league of extraordinary gentleman. I couldn't help but watch it again and thought it was a pretty good movie. you have the hunter who goes after dracula &amp quot played by the kinda cute richard roxburgh&amp quot with help from a woman who's avenging her family that was killed by the vampire. didn't recognize wenham as carl who i found out later was the dashing faramir in lotr two towers and return of the king. so yeah give this one a chance.

I thought this was one of the most thought out terrific action movie ever. I knew the original story of Dracula, The Wolfman, and the Franfenstein monster, this puts a whole knew spin on it. It's actioned packed, smart, and the special effects are incredible. I do not see how anybody could not like this movie. I was literally at the edge of my seet. The acting is superb and the story line is perfect. Van Helsing is a ten out of ten. Out of all the action movies this one leaves them all behind.

this movie wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. hugh and kate played their parts well. the plot was really out there. recommened for people who like hugh jackman

I tried to like this movie...I really did, but the sheer crappiness of it got in the way. It could have been awesome! They had a great cast, but not a great story line. I guess I'd have to say it was like LXG only worse. Perhaps it was because the movie was more in your face and less psychological. Too bad...

I feel that the movie was an easy movie to watch and get lost in. I would put this in a classification of a " no brainer". This is a good movie enjoy for what it is, a fun movie for the family to watch together. I thought this movie was well edited. It moved quickly along and the storyline wasn't lost in alot of action. I loved the CGI affects. As for the actor Tim, Please watch movies with a open mind. Not all movies are made to have deep meaning and very artfully done to please both the eye and the intellectual part of the brain. Some movies are made to be fun!
