Oingo Boingo: Farewell

Oingo Boingo: Farewell

Director:  Cast: Oingo Boingo

While he's best-known as one of Hollywood's busiest film composers, between 1977 and 1995 Danny Elfman was also the leader of the rock band Oingo Boingo, who blended angular new wave melodic structures with a punchy horn section and came up with a truly unique sound in the process. While they were wildly popular in their hometown of Los Angeles, the group never achieved real stardom nationwide, but this DVD preserves the band's epic final stand before a packed house at L.A.'s Universal Amphitheater in 1995. Disc one features the group's three-hour farewell concert, transferred in full frame with Dolby Digital Stereo sound. Disc two features bonus material, including a documentary on the history of the band (including retrospective footage from throughout their career), as well as music videos for two tunes, "Little Girls" and "Insanity." In all, a must for any fan of the group, and an exceedingly thorough introduction for newcomers.

There are few bands in the world who created such a cult following as Oingo Boingo. Led by Danny Elfman, who is now one of the worlds most respected film composers, this new-wave band brought insanity to a true, enjoyable level. And in this DVD, Boingo says farewell, pulling out all the stops for one last concert. With hits like "Dead Man's Party", "Insanity", "Wild Sex (In The Working Class)", "Little Girls", "Nasty Habits", and their cover of the Beatles' "I Am The Walrus", Oingo Boingo amazes almost everyone with well-thought, and sometimes hilarious, wordplay and engaging, eccentric horn sections and guitar riffs. They also pulled out a few good extras for this DVD. The videos for "Private Life" and "Little Girls" are a secret for true Boingo fans and avid DVD watchers alike. And a slideshow-like behind-the-music-ish documentary completes the ultimate gift for any Boingo fan. In closing, just let your sanity go for 2 and someodd hours and let Danny do the rest.
