Previously seen under the title of My Father The Hero (and sometimes a Letter to Daddy, this Jet Li and Anita Mui vehicle has had an overhaul at the hands of the folks at Dimension Films. An English voice track has been supplied, and the music and effects have been redone to give the film a shiny new Dolby 5.1 soundtrack. The new music and effects are quite passable, giving the film a little extra punch in the right places, while the dialogue track fits very well. On the video side, the transfer is anamorphic and letterboxed at 1.85:1, which was the original aspect ratio of this film, so there's no cropping with this release. The film elements have been taken from a reasonably good source, though there are a few obvious bright speckles in the first few minutes of the film, and then at intervals throughout. The image is quite crisp and clean otherwise, with accurate flesh tones and solid colors. The transfer seems to be lacking any signs of compression artifacts. The only extras on the disc are a couple of trailers, and the option to turn on English captioning. There are 22 chapter stops.
