First things first, however. The Monster That Challenged The World is a very forgettable monster movie. The best part is the presence of Hans Conreid who later made famous the role of Uncle Tonoose on the Danny Thomas show. He had a very distinctive voice that I'm sure you will recognize as soon as you hear it. Now to IT!. Why do I love this movie? If you love Alien, you cannot help but love this movie. The story is very similar in that a creature stows away on a spaceship and the crew is faced with having to kill it. And, of course, the creature, who looks like a refugee from Creature From the Black Lagoon, knocks off the crew members one by one. Marshall Thompson, a very believable actor is in the lead role. The story is great. The ending, especially, will make you think of Alien. Tense moments abound. A definite keeper.

"The Monster That Challenged the World" is about giant snails that spring out of the Salton Sea and terrorize the world and, if you pardon the pun, is sluggish, to say the least. It's silly hokum.

The reason to watch this DVD is the second feature "It! The Terror from Beyond Space." This is a tense little sci-fi thriller that reminds me of the fifties' classic "The Thing from Another World." Made on a shoestring, "It! The Terror from Beyond Space" generates taut suspense. I know the Martian creature called "It" looks cheesy and obviously fake, compared to today's monsters, but it doesn't matter. This movie is still a cut above the average sci-fi flick.
