Two exploitation classics are packaged together in this twin set from Kino Video. Maniac, a supposed hard-hitting examination of mental illness, and Narcotic, an anti-drug film that owes more than a little to the camp classic Reefer Madness, are both presented in their original aspect ratios of 1.33:1. English soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Mono. There are neither subtitles nor closed captions on this release. Supplemental materials include a commentary by film historian Bret Wood, the original theatrical trailer for and screenplay excerpt from Maniac, a photo gallery, and a history of the censorship faced by these films produced outside the Hollywood system. This is a very entertaining DVD.
