As he did in his screenplay for Silver Streak (1974), writer/director Colin Higgins mixes life-and-death melodrama with broad slapstick in Foul Play. Goldie Hawn stars as Gloria Mundy, a recent divorcée whose attempts to start life anew in San Francisco are bollixed up when she is inadvertently swept up in an assassination plot against the Pope. Offering sometimes dubious aid and comfort to Gloria is bumbling federal agent Tony Carlson (Chevy Chase). The film's comedy ranges from the farcical seduction efforts by musician Stanley Tibbets (Dudley Moore) to the zany, gag-filled car-chase finale. Foul Play features character actors Rachel Roberts and Eugene Roche as villains, Burgess Meredith as a martial arts-happy landlord, and Billy Barty as a long-suffering religious bookseller. It also packs in a memorable "throwaway" gag involving a profane Scrabble game played by sweet little old ladies Queenie Smith and Hope Summers.

Old (the '80s vintage) but just as funny today. Snappy delivery of hilarious dialogue, wonderful visual comedy, and great acting by a young Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn. Want laughs, plain and simple? This is your flick.

I agree with all other reviews. Not enough can be said about the movie, cast, plot, etc. Why can't we see movies like this today..with Goldie and Chevy???? There is a large audience for them though "they" would have us believe different.

Foul Play is the Best movie ever made. The first time I saw it was in 1979. And it still remains my #1 favorite movie. I can site the movie verbatim. Goldie Hawn & Chevy Chase make this one the greatest comedic & entertaining movies. The late great Dudley Moore & Burgess Meredith bring a sense of laughter that is contagious. You will find yourself with stomach pain from all the laughter. GET THIS MOVIE-They don't make them like these anymore!!!This movie does prove the point of Fate & Destiny.

This is just a fun movie. Chevy and Goldie have great chemistry. They shine in the midst of interesting characters. The dwarf, the albino, the swinger (Dudley Moore is unforgettable!), the tourists (Kojak bang bang), and the old lady scrabble players (must be seen and not printed). Certainly not an academy award nominee but watching this movie is like hanging out with old friends.

This near perfect movie has it all. Heroes and villains and slapstick and suspense and a wild car ride covering San Francisco. The young trucker makes ''Far out'' worthy of Shakespeare.See Dudley Moore and Burgess Meredith and Rachel Roberts in unforgettable roles. And Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase. The BEST. And a Gilbert & Sullivan bonus. How good can a movie be? This is it !

Classically innocent and funny Goldie Hawn, and, Chevy Chase as a great straight man -you'd better ''Beware of the Drawf. . .'' Classifies as a cult movie in my opinion. Give it another look!
