Child's Play seems to have been concocted by a parent who went berserk after standing in line for hours on end to purchase a Cabbage Patch doll in the early 1980s. The film opens with serial killer Brad Dourif taking refuge in a doll factory. Dourif is killed by the cops, but not before he has invoked a voodoo curse which transfers his soul into one of the dolls. That particular doll, nicknamed Chuckie, is unwittingly purchased by Catherine Hicks for her son Alex Vincent. Several murders occur shortly thereafter; all evidence points to Alex, who insists that his cherub-faced doll is responsible. Detective Chris Sarandon, the man responsible for Dourif's death, doesn't swallow Alex's story, but he agrees to investigate because he's sweet on Alex's mom. The slasher-flick ending of Child's Play would seem to have settled Chuckie's hash for good and all, but guess again--the film spawned numerous sequels.

This movie was fairly scary. Many jumps and creeps, though the only criticism I would have for this movie is that it isn't as good as the second.

Child's Play came out when I was 9 years old. I am now 23 years old and I still can't get enough of this movie. This movie made a lot of kids think twice about buying a My Buddy doll. They were so similar. It just moved people like that. So if you don't have this movie yet, get off your butts and go buy it. You will thank me later

I've been waiting 7 years to get all of the Chucky movies on Dvd and I have just got them all. They are the best movies I seen since the Exorsist. Can the child of Chucky live up to his Dad.

The movie happens to be awful. The acting dreadful. But Chucky still has a place in my heart. Though it's really bad, it's still so good. I love Brad Douriff being Chucky's voice. But the worst part is the actors trying to pretend they are being attacked by a doll. But it's still a sort-of classic!

Child's Play is everything I look for in a horror movie. It has everything: a little magic, some vodoo, small romance, violence, chills, and pizazz. The film opens when serial killer Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) is on the run from the police. After Ray is shot down by a police detective (Chris Sarandon) Ray transfers his soul into the body of a children's Good Guy Doll. The next day, Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) is celebrating his 6th birthday with his mother, Karen Barclay (Catherine Hicks). The Barclays, not very wealthy, are live in Chicago. (Mr. Barclay died before the film started) Once she gets to work, Mrs. Barclay purchases a doll from a peddler behind where she works. The doll, calling himself ''Chucky'' seems good at first, but once Andy's babysitter is brutally thrown out a can guess what happens next.
