It was a nice surprise for me to find this enchanting little novel by chance. The story was moving and the main character 'Nan' in the story was a courageous and admirable woman, who had a difficult and unfortunate life. Her story was fascinating. It was a shame that the author did not know much about this remarkable woman's earlier life in Shanghai before she went to Hong Kong. By no means that this novel is a classic like 'Pride and Prejudice' or 'Divid Copperfield', because English is the author's second language, but his writing was adequate and easy to read. It made you feel the author was actually telling you the story in person when you are reading the book. It also gave you the feeling that you have known the author for all your life after you have read it. I fully recommend this little novel to all my friends or anyone who is interested in reading a nice story.
