“This is essential reading for anyone clearing out your own or a loved one’s home. . . . invaluable.” —The Wall Street Journal

It’s a rite of passage almost no one will escape: the difficult, emotional journey of downsizing your or your aging parents' home. Here, nationally syndicated home columnist Marni Jameson sensitively guides readers through the process, from opening that first closet, to sorting through a lifetime's worth of possessions, to selling the homestead itself. Using her own personal journey as a basis, she helps you figure out a strategy and create a mindset to accomplish the task quickly, respectfully, rewardingly—and, in the best of situations, even memorably. Throughout, she combines her been-there experience with insights from national experts—antiques appraisers, garage-sale gurus, professional organizers, and psychologists—to offer practical wisdom and heartwarming advice so you know with certainty what to keep, toss or sell.

I was pleantly surprised at how informative this book is, no doubt a lot of the information I had read or heard before, however this book gave me a whole new prospective. The advice is more realistic and I personally found that I could live with a lot of the suggestions. Marni is keenly awear that, no matter the curcumstances in your life that downsizing/decuttering can be an emotionally stressful process, I know that it has been for me.

I've read this book after reading several others, trying to gear myself up to downsizing. Marni's honest and easy style, as well as the points she makes that don't appear in other books, has prompted me to buy additional copies to give to friends and relatives.

Well written. Easy read. Gives great pointers as to what to keep and what to let go as well as how to downsize for your children.

I am giving this four stars before reading it, because I already love her style of writing. I eagerly wait for Jameson's weekly articles, particularly the ones on this tricky subject of downsizing. She is engaging and easy to read, and has lots of personal anecdotes that bring her writing to life. I'm ordering her book now and will try to get back and modify my review, if I need to!
