Overview

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY NPR AND KIRKUS REVIEWS

Suzanne Brockmann’s seamless blend of heroic military action and intense passion inspired USA Today to call her “a superstar of romantic suspense”—and for years her award-winning Troubleshooters books have been must-reads for fans of sizzling stories of action and adventure. Now the New York Times bestselling author shoots to thrill again with Do or Die.

Navy SEAL Ian Dunn went rogue in a big way when he turned his talents to a lawless life of jewel heists and con jobs. Or so the world has been led to believe. In reality, the former Special Ops warrior is still fighting for good, leading a small band of freelance covert operatives who take care of high-stakes business in highly unofficial ways. That makes Ian the hands-down choice when the U.S. government must breach a heavily guarded embassy and rescue a pair of children kidnapped by their own father, a sinister foreign national willing to turn his kids into casualties. Shockingly, Ian passes on the mission for reasons he will not—or cannot—reveal.

But saying no is not an option. Especially not for Phoebe Kruger, Ian’s beautiful and unexpectedly brash new attorney. Determined to see the abducted children set free, Phoebe not only gets Ian on board but insists on riding shotgun on his Mission: Impossible–style operation, whether he likes it or not.

Though Phoebe has a valuable knack for getting out of tight spots, there’s no denying the intensely intimate feelings growing between Ian and Phoebe as the team gears up for combat. But these are feelings they both must fight to control as they face an array of cold-blooded adversaries, including a vindictive mob boss who’s got Ian at the top of his hit list and a wealthy psychopath who loves murder as much as he loves money. As they dodge death squads and play lethal games of deception, Ian and Phoebe will do whatever it takes to save the innocent and vanquish the guilty—or die trying.

Praise for Do or Die

“This is action-adventure on steroids with an interwoven romance or two, maybe three or even four in full bloom or on the cusp of blossoming. From the start, I’m recommending that you keep an eye out for the next book in this Reluctant Heroes series. Here’s a vote for Martell Griffin’s story. [Suzanne] Brockmann writes with the imagination running free and on the wild side. What’s not to love about that? . . . Suspense remains high at octane levels, and the romance is served up with witty banter, ultrasexiness and very poignant moments.”USA Today

“Fans of Suzanne Brockmann’s military suspense novels need not worry. There’s a new cast of intriguing, smart and buff characters (both the men and the women), but the adrenaline-driven pace and crafty plotting are pure Brockmann. . . . As the team members dispersed, I looked forward to reading their tales, knowing that master storyteller Brockmann will deliver them as she did in the seventeen Troubleshooters books.”Tampa Bay Times

“Brockmann effortlessly and expertly tosses hundreds of details into the air and juggles them with brilliance. The first in her Reluctant Heroes series, the novel will captivate readers with its intense, action-filled plot, alpha-and-a-half hero, and his smart, perfect-for-him heroine, as well as secondary characters who contribute pathos and humor. Enthralling and breathtaking.”Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

Caution readers - I think we can all acknowledge that the author is a terrific writer and can make a tired plotline come to life, but this is not a romance. It is more of an action packed / gay agenda driven book as has her last couple of books have been. Maybe the author should give up all pretense and label her books as a gay romance with lots of action. After every action packed tense page when I finally finished I realized that this book was an exhausting rather than a fulfilling read. I think all of the readers know that the author has a gay son, but sometimes I really wish that her books did not have a gay agenda or maybe she needs to switch genres to gay romances.

Brockmann did a fantastic job with this one, it had it all! Couldn't put it down!

Unless reading how a gay couple reacts to bad situations the same as a hetro couple bothers you (scared, hugging when reunited, no sex or anything) then youll LOVE this book! Cant wait for more!

If this book followed the blurb, it would have been better. The gay couple and their anguished problems took over the story and the actual "rescue" didn't come into play into the book until the last 100 pages. I really waited for this to come out...glad I waited and read the library's copy...saved money.

The book felt forced the FBT came across as incompetent. Action packed but characters not endearing. I really wish Juls would have been part of the story, he's been my favorite character for awhile now. Action packed but it fell flat at the same time. Shel and Aaron the supporting characters were more like able then the main ones. Not one of her better works

I checked this out through the library.... Glad I did. Not like other books that Brockmann has written at all. It's way to busy and I can't get into the characters. Can't finish it.....

*Copy provided by Netgalley for an unbiased review. This is the first in a new series, "Reluctant Heroes", by Suzanne Brockmann. It had a lot going on - introducing multiple characters and their backstories along with a plot and subplots that had a lot going on. I switched between reading parts of this one, and listening to the audio version in other parts. Viewpoints switched between the major characters. It all flowed pretty well, but I did find myself enjoying listening a bit more than reading, possibly because the audiobook used both a male and a female narrator, which helped maintain my interest when certain areas dragged a bit. Overall I think it was a promising start for a new series, and I look forward to the next installment.

Another winner. I just love how Ms. Brockmann shows that love between gays can be meaningful and beautiful. Love is love regardless. I also appreciate her alpha males and strong women. Her books always keep you right on the edge. She has never once disappointed me.

Come on bn. Please do something to these longwinded plot spoilers who rewrite the book in their so called book reviews. They brag about getting their books for free, then proceed to tell every detail of the story ruining it for others who may wish to buy it. Who wants to buy a book when some rude person has already told the entire story????

Not sure why stars aren't calculating correctly, read the reviews, this is five stars all the way.

Former Navy SEAL, international action hero, prison inmate, you can describe Ian many ways, but basically he's an overprotective big brother who will, yep, do or die to protect his family and team. Great action, wit, romance as always plus a couple of requited and unrequited love stories that nearly tear your heart out.

I'm a HUGE fan of her Troubleshooters series, and while nothing will ever replace them, this book reminded me why I love Suzanne Brockmann. I'm excited to read more in this series!

I really enjoyed this book. It had romance and action. My only complaint about this book, and it didn't really affect my rating was the fact that some of the characters had too many nicknames, so sometimes it got a bit confusing. The romances seemed to flow with the story and the action was edge of your seat. Now, if Ms Brockmann would only write as fast as I read, and believe me I'm not that fast a reader, I could get the next book in this series. Hope it won't take to long until it comes out.

Suzanne Brockmann is one of my favorite authors, so when Do or Die came up in a giveaway on Goodreads, I jumped on it. With embarrassing quickness. She is just an amazing author. I love how she is so incredibly technical with her spy/military ops and let me tell you, she knows what she's talking about. There has been more than one instance when I asked a Marine friend a question and each time, it turned out that Brockmann was on point. Her novels just have this ... realness ... to them. She is one of those authors who writes novels that become movies in your mind as you read them. Anyway ... let's get on with the review of this one. There isn't much to say. It was pretty much perfection. I don't know that I would change anything about it, actually. I know, I know. If that's the case, then why did I give it 4 stars instead of 5, right? Well ... the missing star isn't for anything huge. But since I noted that it was one thing that I would do differently, I thought it warranted a missing star. Guess I should tell you what it is ... I just personally thought that there should have been more Ian and Phoebe. Oh, there was a crap-ton of Ian and Phoebe but after I put down this behemoth of a novel, it was my one regret. The back and forth between these two characters was so amazing that I was just left wanting more. I wanted more of everything, actually. That's a pretty tall order on a novel that is over 600 pages but it's true. The story was so fast paced, you didn't realize that you were blowing through page after page. If this novel had been even one page shorter, I would have been pissed!! There wasn't one time that I put this book down and thought, "Dear Lord, stick a fork in it already!!". I found myself getting more and more exciting the further I dove into this thing. All in all, amazing novel. It is one that I know I'll find myself reading again at a later date and I know that I'll be picking up the next novel in this new series. So great. Oh ... and if you've already read some of the Troubleshooters series by Brockmann ... you'll enjoy this one. This is intended to be a spin-off but I think that it's making its own mark and shouldn't be compared. It's a different series with a different feel but that's good!!

I ABSOLUTELY love the Troubleshooters, Inc. series!!!!!   I've been a loyal reader of Ms Brockman's for many years and will continue to read any book she's written!!!!! Fast paced plot, like able characters, REAL romance, blood, sweat, & tears- her books ALWAYS 'have it all'.   This is book 1 of a new series and does a fantastic job of inducing the characters and starting their story arcs. I would have bought this book, but who doesn't love a free, no-strings advance copy?!?! THank you NetGalley for the copy, my words are mine alone. :)

I could not put the book down all weekend...another awesome read like the Trouble Shooter series. Keep writing Suzanne you are one of the few writers that can write multi plots in one storyand keep the reader engaged. When will the next one is this series be available? Don't keep me waiting.

Every great thing said about Suzanne and her work is true.... the action keeps you reading, the romance keeps you mellow, and what works best for me is the humor thrown in....and of course her to die for heroes...
